New Releases on Netflix UK (4th November 2016)

Published on EST

Welcome to November and and all the additions. So, without further ado, here are our top-tips for this week as well as the full list of what’s new on Netflix UK.

What better way to start our UK write-up than telling you about the new UK-based Netflix Original series: “The Crown”. Revolving around the life of Queen Elizabeth II and the politics and relationships of the time and planned to run over six seasons up to the present day. Netflix have spent a fortune on this period drama and early feedback suggests they’re giving the BBC a run for their money in this genre. All 10 episodes of season 1 are available now.

A couple of interesting documentaries have been added this week. “Deprogrammed” follows a group of people that aim to ‘de-programme’ people who were involved in cults. “The Ivory Game” infiltrates the corrupt network of ivory traders to try and expose them as African elephants get closer to extinction.

The good teen film “The Maze Runner”, based on the book of the same name, is set in a postapocoalyptic future where teenagers are held captive in the centre of a large maze. No one really knows why they are there but food supplies arrive each day and they know there are terrible things within the maze itself… When Thomas arrives followed shortly by Teresa the group soon begins to unravel the mystery of the maze and attempt to escape.

Sci-fi series “The Expanse” has arrived in the UK and is only available on Netflix. Set two centuries in the future, the 10-episode series revolves around a detective in the asteroid belt and a United Nations First Officer who uncover a plot that puts the colony on the asteroid belt at risk.

Other highlights this week include “Shameless (U.S.)”, the actually-very-good American remake of the Channel 4 hit; “Machete Kills” and “Bride Wars”.

For the younger viewers there are a couple of recommendations. From the ‘Air Bud’ team comes “Pupstar” where a singing dog gets dognapped. With the help of a friend he manages to escape and they go on a musical adventure to get home.

The third of the Chipmunks films, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked”, arrived this week and sees our cheeky brothers Alvin, Simon and Theodore along with their respective girlfriends, on a cruise ship. After a ride on a kite goes wrong they end up stranded on a remote island where they need to try and survive and get back to their ‘dad’ Dave.
