Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to What’s on Netflix UK where we will, as the name suggests, give you the rundown of all the latest additions to Netflix UK along with our top picks.
A fantastic addition, and something many people will be reminiscing over, is “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. This classic 90’s sitcom sees a young Will Smith heading to the posh suburb of Bel-Air to live with his rich aunt and uncle. Hilarity ensues when his somewhat-less privileged upbringing clashes with his new family in their LA mansion. If you’ve never seen it, just watch it. All 6 seasons are available to stream right now.
A very popular addition this week is “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”, a comedic adventure from New Zealand. When the ‘out of control’ Ricky runs away from foster care he ends up in the forests of New Zealand with his foster uncle and the authorities start a nationwide manhunt. It’s by the same chap who brought us the hilarious vampire mockumentary “What We Do In The Shadows” so that should give you an idea of what to expect.
The musical Marmite-movie “Whiplash” follows Andrew, a gifted drummer, who attends a prestigious music school. His mentor is a professor renowned for abusing his students in order to push them to their full potential. The two form a odd bond and Andrew will stop at nothing to excel – even if it puts his personality at risk.
“Sing Street” is a recent film set in 1980s Dublin about Conor, whose family is falling apart and he has various struggles in his life. When he moves to a new school he spots the girl of his dreams although he knows he’ll never get noticed by her. He hatches a plan to form a new band in order to get her attention – it seems to work, but will their romance last?
Season 2 of “Shadowhunters” has arrived with new episodes added each Tuesday. This series, based on the book series of the same name, follows a group of teen-aged demon hunters who are descendents of angels.
Other noteworthy additions this week include the horror sequel “The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death”, the Auschwitz-based “Son of Saul”, the inspirational comedy “Eddie the Eagle” which retells the famous ski-jumper’s story and the classic supernatural horror “The Pit and the Pendulum”.
For the younger viewers we recommend the Playstation-based “Ratchet and Clank”, the fun time-travelling turkey themed “Free Birds” and the 5th season of “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic”
