New Releases on Netflix UK (9th December 2016)

As we approach Christmas we have a few new additions for the festive season. “Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas” heads up the show with a star-studded, musical Christmas show. Guests include Kelsey Grammer among others and the songs are interspersed with a reading of “The Night Before Christmas”.

Next we have the great, British family film “Nativity!” starring Martin Freeman as Paul. It’s nativity time and Paul is charged with arranging the school nativity but when a rival school starts raising the stakes, Paul claims that his school play will be visited by his ex-girlfriend, a Hollywood producer, to make it into a film. He hasn’t spoken to his ex for quite some time and when word gets around about their new celebrity status then he has to act quickly.

For the younger ones we have “Bob’s Broken Sleigh”, an animated film about a magic-less elf called Bob. Bob decides to make some modifications to Santa’s sleigh but ends up crashing in the woods after being ambushed by an evil Puffin. Bob must get the sleigh back to Santa, with the help of his new forest friends, before the puffins can get their hands on it.

Moving on from the Christmas-themed additions Disney’s “Into The Woods” has arrived this week. This modern, musical take on classic Grimm fairy tales sees Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and other tales strung together with a story about a witch who needs to remove a family curse.

We’ve had a few updates to TV series this week too with season 2 of Netflix original “Fuller House”, series 2 of BBC comedy “Detectorists”, season 13 of “Hell’s Kitchen” and 6 seasons of “Benidorm” making a welcome return.

Finally, in a somewhat unexpected move, Netflix have added a handful of Polish stand-up comedy shows. They all have the original Polish audio with English subtitles. I’m going to give them a try, but my experience of using subtitles for stand-up comedy usually destroys the flow and timing of the jokes… Still, I’ll give them a try!
