What’s New on Netflix UK This Week: September 6th, 2019

Shameless (U.S.) season 8 is now available to stream on Netflix

It’s a much busier week on Netflix UK this week with the addition of 51 brand new titles to be enjoyed. There’s also plenty more to look forward to this month but for now, here’s your full list of this week’s Netflix UK additions.

First of all, here’s the past week’s top highlights.

Shameless (U.S.): Season 8

It’s not very often that American adaptations of British television shows match or let alone exceed the series. When it was first announced that popular comedy-drama Shameless was heading to America, there was certainly an audible groan from us. How pleasantly surprised we were by the sheer excellence of William H. Macy as the titular Frank Gallagher and the rest of the cast. One of the longest series running on Showtime to date, Shameless (U.S) is a real treat to new and old fans. The UK is still a season behind the US but the ninth season will be arriving next year.

Frank Gallagher is a single father raising his dysfunctional family of six children. Raise is a loose term as Franks spends most of his time drinking and scheming while his children have learned to fend for themselves.

The Pianist (2002)

Thanks to his outstanding performance in The Pianist, Adrien Brody became the youngest recipient to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. A harrowing tale of the horrors of war and the Jewish persecution in Poland during WW2, Brody’s performance as Władysław Szpilman is not one to be missed.

Before the German’s invasion of Poland, Władysław Szpilman worked at the Warsaw radio station playing the piano. When the German’s occupy his country, Szpilman goes on a harrowing journey of survival in the city of Warsaw as he bears witness to the persecution of his people and the destruction of his city.

The Spy: Limited Series N

For those looking for a brand new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy, you won’t find it here. In what is arguably his most serious role to date the comedy veteran is taking on the role of the infamous Israeli spy Eli Cohen.

Based on the career of real-life of the notorious Mossad agent Eli Cohen, The Spy follows  Cohen’s mission to Syria as he infiltrates the political and military hierarchy of the nation. The intelligence Cohen gathered was imperative to the defense of Israel and ultimately changed the nation’s future forever.
