Black Mirror – Season 5 new on Netflix / Netflix

Welcome back to your daily look at what’s new on Netflix and today is a massive day of new releases mainly because one of Netflix’s best shows is back for season 5. 

In total, four new titles were added today and each is pointed at a different audience. There’s already been a lot of great new titles added this week including season 3 of Documentary Now! added on Monday. This Friday is stacked with 3% and Designated Survivor returning for new seasons as well as a handful of new movies.

Black Mirror (Season 5)

Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Cast: Daniel Lapaine, Hannah John-Kamen, Michaela Coel, Beatrice Robertson-Jones

Black Mirror is back on what seems like a very long hiatus despite Bandersnatch releasing last Chrismas. The shortened season features three new stories with some big names attached and three new terrifying concepts that aren’t too inconceivable.

Reviews for the new episodes are coming in and are already looking strong.

Dolphin Kick (2019)

Genre: Adventure
Director: Philip Marlatt
Cast: Tyler Jade Nixon, Axle McCoy, Travis McCoy, Alexis Louder
Runtime: 89 min

You’ve probably seen many movies before that share a very similar premise and sadly, this movie doesn’t do much to set it apart from the rest.

The adventure title sees a young boy trying to overcome his fear of water with the help of his dolphin friend. It’s got some nice visuals and some great music throughout.

Perfect for the kids or a family movie night.


Dr. Suess The Grinch (2018)

Genre: Animation, Comedy, Family, Fantasy, Musical
Director: Yarrow Cheney, Scott Mosier
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Cameron Seely, Rashida Jones, Pharrell Williams
Runtime: 85 min
Language: English

June is chock full of new animated movies coming to Netflix with Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse scheduled for later this month as well as the second Wreck-it Ralph movie.

This movie comes from Illumination Studios who are behind Despicable Me and Sing which come to Netflix on a regular basis. This was one of the big Christmas movies of last year with them tacking the famous character from Dr. Suess and was famously adapted in 2000 with Jim Carrey.

The movie was received with a mix reaction with it clocking in at a 51 on Metacritic and 6.3 on IMDb.


A Silent Voice (2016)

Genre: Animation, Drama, Romance
Director: Naoko Yamada
Cast: Miyu Irino, Saori Hayami, Aoi Yûki, Kenshô Ono
Runtime: 130 min
Language: Japanese

We’ve known about the arrival of this anime coming to Netflix which joins a stacked month of new anime releases on Netflix for June.

A Silent Voice is about a young girl who becomes friends with someone who used to bully her younger and seeks redemption from his past.

The movie was critically acclaimed and features an English dub as well as the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.


What Left Netflix for June 5th

Today saw the big removal of one of the last remaining Marvel movies on Netflix. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is no longer on Netflix.

Here are the other titles that were dropped from the library today:

  • Jamie & Jimmy’s Food Fight Club (TV Series)
  • Jurassic School (2017)
  • Lords and Ladles (TV Series)
  • The Masked Saint (TV Series)
