The Notebook

Welcome to March. A new month means a big drop of new and returning content. We take a look at some highlights and round up all of the titles new today on March 1.

You may have become accustomed to us doing a highlights article for the first of each month in addition to the article listing the new titles for the day. We are combining those now to make it a little easier for you to find everything in one place. So I’ll be hitting some of the titles I think are worth adding to your queue as well as adding a complete list of new additions for today at the end of the article.

There were quite a few James Bond movies added today. For a look at those titles, check out What James Bond Movies are on Netflix?

For a roundup of the week’s titles, look out for the What’s New This Week article later today.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

This is a movie you should see once in your lifetime…you may not want to see it any more than that. I know it gave me nightmares for a couple of days. Malcolm McDowell is absolutely captivating in this brutal role as Alex, a violence-loving maniac who leads a band of “Droogs.” They spend their time getting high and inflicting as much disturbing pain and chaos as they can on society.

Apollo 13 (1995)

Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, and Kevin Bacon star in this drama based on the events of the Apollo 13 lunar mission. When an oxygen tank explodes during their flight, the crew must fight to find a way to get back home. This star-studded film is a definite movie night winner.

Saving Mr. Banks (2013)

Tom Hanks stars as Walt Disney in this film about Disney’s dogged pursuit to acquire the rights to the book Mary Poppins. The author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), is unswayed by Disney’s charm and has no intention of letting her beloved characters go. However, when the books stop selling and she finds herself in need of money, Travers reluctantly agrees to consider Disney’s proposition.

Stuart Little (1999)

E. B. White’s timeless story is brought to life in this Hollywood reimagining with an all-star cast. When the Little family goes to an orphanage to adopt a new family member, a charming young mouse named Stuart is chosen. With a lot of heart and courage, Stewart manages to prove that sometimes the best things come in small packages.

The Hurt Locker (2008)

Jeremy Renner stars in this award-winning movie as the leader of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit in Iraq. He is an inveterate risk-taker who seems to thrive on war, but there’s no denying his gift for defusing bombs. It’s a very intense and well-made movie.

The Notebook (2004)

Based on the best-selling novel, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams star in this love story about two people kept apart in 1940s South Carolina. It seemed their love had died, but when they reunite years later it was even stronger than ever.

Legally Blonde (2001)

This movie will always be a favorite. Reese Witherspoon is absolutely adorable in this movie about a sorority girl who goes to Harvard Law School to try to win back the guy she loves. It’s a great movie to watch when you’re in the mood for something fun.
