What is Mourinho on Netflix about?
Filmed over the course of two years, Mourinho will tell the story of the man who completely revolutionized the role of a modern football manager.
The three-part series picks up twenty years after the fateful night he shocked the sporting world by leading FC Porto to Champions League glory. From there, the docu-series will chart his historic rise, managing some of the most prestigious clubs on the planet—including Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid, where he has recently returned.
With league titles in four different countries and two Champions League trophies, Mourinho’s career has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. Netflix promises the series will go “beyond the headlines and the touchline theatrics to get under the skin of the ‘Special One,'” exploring the ultimate contradiction of a winner the game can’t live without, but can’t always live with.
Who is behind the series?
If the premise wasn’t enough to get you excited, the production team behind the camera absolutely will.
Mourinho is produced by Ventureland, the production company behind some of Netflix’s biggest and best recent documentaries. They are the team that brought us the Emmy-winning Beckham series, as well as Wham!, The Deepest Breath, and the recently released Kylie docu-series.
Double Academy Award-winner John Battsek (Beckham) and Miles Coleman (99) serve as producers, while BAFTA- and Emmy-nominated director Joe Pearlman is taking the helm. Pearlman is no stranger to Netflix subscribers, having recently directed the smash-hit Robbie Williams series and Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now.
Who will appear in Mourinho?
To tell the story of José Mourinho, you need a seriously star-studded lineup of football royalty, and Netflix has delivered. The documentary features exclusive access to Mourinho himself, alongside a massive roster of candid interviews with some of the game’s greatest names.
Here is the confirmed list of football legends featured in the series:
- Sir Alex Ferguson
- John Terry
- Iker Casillas
- Zlatan Ibrahimović
