Now, Deadline (and Netflix UK) has officially lifted the lid on the stellar ensemble cast joining him in the upcoming British drama.

Produced by Bad Wolf (Doctor Who, His Dark Materials), the 6-part series promises to be an explosive, fast-paced ride through the halls of Westminster. What is The Lords’ Day about?

If you missed our initial scoop back in March, The Lords’ Day is an action-heavy adaptation of Michael Dobbs’ bestselling thriller. While the book focuses heavily on the broader politics of a massive hostage siege during the State Opening of Parliament, the Netflix adaptation is turning up the dial on the action, centering the story around a lone-wolf protagonist.

Damson Idris (Snowfall, F1) stars as British spy Harry Jones. He will also serve as an executive producer.

Here is the official synopsis for the series:

“On the State Opening of Parliament, British spy Harry Jones (Idris) finds himself inside the iconic building amidst a lockdown. As the siege escalates, loyalties are tested and selfless sacrifices are made, leading to a desperate fight for survival where not everyone will emerge alive. Can Harry use his skills and training to be the country’s saviour? Adapted from a novel by Michael Dobbs (House of Cards), this is a fast-paced action thriller set at the heart of British power.”

An expanded synopsis reads:

“The drama of the greatest siege since Troy is set in the House of Lords that breaks all the rules. The boundaries of parental love and filial devotion are explored to their breaking point in this unique and breathtaking thriller. Once a year, the Queen, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet, the judges, and the bishops, assemble in the House of Lords for the State Opening of Parliament. On this day, the Lords’ Day, the gathering is still more impressive, for sitting beside his mother is the heir to the throne and up in the galleries are the sons of both the U.S. President and the British Prime Minister. But they are all about to be taken hostage. As the world watches on live television and holds its breath, President and Prime Minister are torn in two between their duty as statesmen, and their love as parents. Harry Jones, a man who is already undergoing the worst day of his life, becomes swept up in the maelstrom. The siege will lead some to selfless sacrifice, others to lose the respect of those they love most dearly.”

Who is behind The Lords’ Day?

The writing team is led by British TV royalty Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks, Humans), who serve as lead writers and executive producers. Directing the tension-filled thriller is Ben Chanan (The Capture), who is also on board as an executive producer.

For Bad Wolf, television titans Jane Tranter, Dan McCulloch, and Joel Collins will executive produce, alongside producer Chris May.

The Lords’ Day joins an increasingly stacked lineup of upcoming original UK dramas at Netflix, including the highly anticipated new Harlan Coben adaptation The Woods, which stars Michelle Keegan and Tom Bateman. The six episode series is currently filming in the United Kingdom and is expected to finish up in early Q3 2026.
