This list is far from perfect as there are many caveats thanks to the complications of Netflix licensing arrangements where some regions get one show but not another.

Never the less, here’s every Italian Netflix Original movie/series on Netflix right now.

Lovers of true crime documentaries should absolutely check this movie out.

The Ruthless (Lo spietato) (2019)

List of Netflix Original Italian Series

Baby (1 Season)

Genre: Drama
Availability: Global Netflix Original
English Dub available: Yes
Added to Netflix: November 2018
Renewed?: Renewed for season 2

This teen series consisting of just 6 episodes in season 1 is about two teenagers from Rome who are sick of everything and go on a journey of self-discovery. They begin to live double lives in the underbelly of Rome.

If you enjoyed series like Girl Boss or Elite on Netflix, this should definitely be added to your watchlist.

Call Me Francis (1 Season)

Genre: Drama
Availability:
40 regions outside of Europe
English Dub available: Yes
Added to Netflix: December 2016
Renewed?: No, limited series

First airing on Canale 5, this series takes a look at Pope Francis in a four-part mini drama series looking at how Jorge Maria Bergoglio became the pontiff.

The major problem with this listing is that it’s not quite a full Netflix Original. The series is only distributed by Netflix outside of Europe. Netflix did want to carry the mini-series in Europe but talks fell through.

Carlo & Malik (1 Season)

Genre: Police Detective Series
Availability: Excludes US & Italy
English Dub available: Yes
Added to Netflix: April 2019
Renewed?: Yes

Not every region picked up Carlo & Malik and that’s a tragedy as the crime drama is a fantastic series. The series is about a veteran police officer from Rome who gets partnered with a rookie who can’t help but keep digging up skeletons from Carlo’s closet.

The series has been renewed in Italy and is expected to arrive later in 2019 meaning season 2 will come to Netflix in the regions specified above in 2020.

Medici: Masters of Florence (2 Seasons)

Genre: Drama
Availability:
Everywhere outside of Italy
English Dub available: Yes
Added to Netflix: December 2016
Renewed?: Yes

There are a good few caveats here with this series. Firstly, the series is only considered an Italian original because it was broadcasted first by Rai in Italy. Secondly, the series isn’t actually filmed in Italian, at least not predominantly.

The period drama is a political one set in the 15th Century. With familiar faces starring, this is a must-watch.

Suburra: Blood on Rome (2 Seasons)

Genre: Political, Drama, Crime
Availability: Global Netflix Original
English Dub available: Yes
Added to Netflix: October 2017
Renewed?: Yes

Suburra is the first and biggest full Netflix Original from Italy. The series takes place in the underbelly of Rome and is basically the Italian equivalent of the likes of Breaking Bad and The Wire.

It’s a series based on the movie from 2015 which is also streaming on Netflix.

The series was quickly renewed for season 3 which is due out in 2020.
