Netflix’s brand new adult-animated comedy, Haunted Hotel, had a great debut. Wonderfully charming and funny, the series has been confirmed for a second season a week after it debuted. Here’s the latest on everything you need to know about a potential second season right here, including the viewership data so far.

In case you’ve missed it so far, Haunted Hotel is a Netflix Original adult animated comedy series created by Matt Roller, who also serves as the showrunner and an executive producer. He is joined by fellow executive producers Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, and Steve Levy. The series is produced by Netflix Animation.

After the unexpected death of her estranged brother, a single mother, Katherine, and her two children inherit the haunted hotel he left behind. However, his ghost remains at the hotel, and dozens of other ghosts haunt the halls, which Katherine is struggling to manage.

Has Netflix renewed Haunted Hotel for a second season?

Official Netflix Renewal Status: Renewed (Last Updated: 09/26/2025)

Netflix officially renewed the show a week after it first debuted. The confirmation came from a press release, although no further details were revealed about the second season beyond Netflix Geeked dropping new poster art. They did confirm that “Titmouse will serve as the studio with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina also acting as Executive Producers.”

As we’ve seen with many animated titles, they are often renewed ahead of time, such as the recently released Long Story Short and many others. That’s because animation can take an extraordinary amount of time, and it makes sense for pipelines and how production works to get things moving early or face a 2-3 year wait for a show’s return (see Blood of Zeus and Blue Eye Samurai).

Whether it was the case here or not is unclear. According to the show’s creator in a recent interview, the show’s future is “number dependent.” Speaking to The Bulwark Goes to Hollywood (via The Direct), Matt Roller said about a second season:

“There are aspirations. I am very aware, again, reading all the comments that I think the number one comment is, ‘This looks great. Can’t wait for Netflix to cancel it.’ Because yeah, I think there is a fair reputation that things get two seasons and then they’re done. I know Netflix is aware of that reputation, or at least Netflix Animation, and isn’t thrilled with it. But I think it is still so number-dependant. People need to watch. If people watch, we will get to make more.”

How well is Haunted Hotel performing on Netflix so far?

Thanks to the Netflix Top 10s and several other locations, we can take a look at the show’s performance thus far. Following its debut, the show has featured in the daily top 10s in 56 countries worldwide, with some of the top performers including the United States, Canada, Iceland, and Eastern European countries such as the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Ukraine.

On Tuesday, September 23rd, we received the first official statistics for the series, with the show ranking as the 10th most watched for that week, garnering 7.5 million hours watched, equivalent to 1.8 million views.

Stacking up that performance against other adult animated series from the past couple of years, we can see it ranks just below Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (which won’t return for a second season) and the second season of Blood of Zeus

What to expect from Haunted Hotel season 2?

As Haunted Hotel is an episodic series, the show can take any direction it needs to. Arguably, the one recurring theme we expect to follow the series is Katherine’s struggle to fill the hotel’s rooms, with the looming threat of debt hanging over her head, which will result in plenty of wacky new guests and adventures to be had at the Haunted Hotel.

However, here are some things we could see in Haunted Hotel season 2:

  • Katherine – As a single mother, the first season delved a little into Katherine’s love life, but it would be fun to explore that more in the second season. It would be hilariously ironic if she somehow wound up falling in love with a ghost just like her son, Ben.
  • Nathan – A shocking revelation in the first season was that Nathan actually committed suicide, and Katherine refrained from telling him to spare him from the knowledge that he had his own life. Nathan is an incredibly happy-go-lucky guy, but it’s unclear what his finished business could be. It’s more than likely tied to the hotel and his family, in particular, Katherine. So perhaps once his sister is happy and the hotel is successful, he can move on.
  • Ben – Proven to get swept up in a cult or a new adventure or idea, Ben is more of a wild card than anyone, even his sister, Esther. However, we could see further developments made between him and his “soul mate” Annabelle.
  • Esther – One aspect of Esther that we think may never leave is her anger over her estranged father. Wonderfully chaotic, Esther loves playing with Abaddon and causing chaos around the hotel. We’d expect more potential hotel or even world-destroying adventures from her.
  • Abaddon – The most character growth we’ve seen has arguably been Abaddon. In the finale, he spent billions of years trying to find a way to get his powers back, keep the family alive, and stop the apocalypse. Ultimately, he chose the family over his powers, so in the second season, we’d expect Abaddon to grow even closer to each member of the family. However, it would also be fun to see more demons like Abaddon and explore his demonic past even further.

Who are the cast members of Haunted Hotel season 2?

We’d expect the following to return to reprise their roles in Haunted Hotel season 2:

  • Will Forte as Nathan.
  • Eliza Coupe as Katherine.
  • Skyler Gisondo as Ben.
  • Natalie Palamides as Esther.
  • Jimmi Simpson as Abaddon.

When could we see a second season of Haunted Hotel on Netflix?

This largely depends on whether Netflix Animation Studios has already begun working on a second season before the release of the first season.

If work is already underway, then we could see a second season as early as late 2026. However, if it’s purely reliant on renewal, then fans could be waiting until 2027 for a brand-new season.
