Jaguar Season 2 Will Netflix Renew Or Cancel

One of the new Spanish series you may not have checked out yet is Jaguar which comes from the same writing team as High Seas and Gran Hotel. The series has made a rather lukewarm impression on Netflix thus far meaning that predicting whether there’ll be a Jaguar season 2 difficult especially when it was reportedly developed as a stand-alone limited series. Here’s what we know so far.

The series landed on Netflix on September 22nd, 2021 as a global Netflix Original. It landed with 8 episodes in total and told the story of Isabel Garrido, a holocaust survivor who is on the hunt for one of the most dangerous Nazis following the war.

Jaguar comes to Netflix from the same team behind The Cable Girls and High Seas both of which ran on Netflix for a number of seasons although both were reportedly cut short. Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira are behind Jaguar.

Has Netflix renewed Jaguar for season 2?

No renewal has come just yet and we won’t expect anything official until around a month after release. With that said, sometimes international shows are renewed without any release to news outlets such as ours.

So what goes into deciding whether to give Jaguar a season 2?

Many factors play a part including how many people chose to press play on the series and how many people then get to the end (ie what completion rate it gets).

Anyone who has watched the show will know that season 2 ends with a rather open ending with many unanswered questions. The series concludes with (spoiler alert) the team capturing Aribert Heim but Otto continues to freely live torturing Lucena.

One Spanish source states that Bambú Producciones (the production company behind Jaguar) is known for managing budgets well making the shows affordable to the likes of Netflix.

How has the series performed in the Netflix top 10s?

This is where we start to become concerned for the chances of a second season. The series has performed well in Spain since its debut (it’s peaked and stayed at number three for much of the week following its release) but already looks like it’s failing to make a mark elsewhere.

We typically find that series that get renewals have to be in the top 10s for around 28 days while also passing other tickboxes on Netflix’s internal lists.

For the moment, that’s all we have on season 2 of Jaguar, we’ll keep you posted over time as and when we learn of official developments.
