October is going to bring some interesting new licensed shows to Netflix in the US, and among them is another big hit show returning to the streamer after an extended hiatus. Edie Falco’s Nurse Jackie is returning to the streamer after five years. The series returns to Netflix on October 7th, 2025.

Netflix US was the streaming home for the series throughout the latter half of the 2010s, with the series being added back in 2015 but eventually removed on New Year’s Eve in 2020

Bizarrely, since that initial Netflix removal, the show has actually been hard to stream. It’s appeared on smaller services like Philo and The Roku App in recent months and years, but for the most part, you’ve been hard-pressed to watch the series through a streaming service, rather forced to pay for it on VOD or buy a physical copy of the box set.

First airing on Showtime between 2009 and 2015, the Emmy-winning series ran for seven seasons and 80 episodes in total. It follows Falco as Jackie Peyton, a brilliant but flawed ER nurse battling addiction while trying to balance the chaos of her work and home life. Alongside Falco, the series features a strong supporting cast including Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, and Anna Deavere Smith.

Liz Brixius, Evan Dunsky, and Linda Wallem are behind the show, with Caryn Mandabach executive producing. Lionsgate Television owns the underlying rights, with Prime Video previously reported to also be carrying the show at some point.

The series was expected to have a big return with announcements coming along that Nurse Jackie, alongside Weeds, would be getting sequels with original stars returning. Since then, however, there has been no update on exactly where those shows are in development.

This comes as part of a licensing bonanza from Lionsgate Television to Netflix following the split from Starz earlier this year. The United States has received a bunch of titles, including the return of Spartacus, which was similarly removed five years ago. Of course, Lionsgate Television also licensed The Hunting Wives to the US for a single year, and that blew up to the point where Netflix is taking over global rights and picked up season 2

Update: The series is returning on October 7th and not the first as originally stated.
