If you’re a fan of mind-bending sci-fi action, you’ll want to mark your calendars. We’ve learned that Netflix has snagged the SVOD debut rights to the hit Chinese blockbuster Per Aspera Ad Astra (星河入梦), and it’s set to touch down on Netflix in most major regions—including the US—on Thursday, June 18th, marking its SVOD debut in the West.

Directed by Han Yan, the film boasts some serious star power, featuring popular actor Dylan Wang (Meteor Garden, Love Between Fairy and Devil) and f(x)’s Victoria Song (Find Yourself, Lover or Stranger) in the leading roles.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming sci-fi acquisition.

What is Per Aspera Ad Astra about?

The sci-fi adventure, reportedly aimed at kids, takes place in the near future aboard a colonizing spaceship where a revolutionary virtual dream system known as “Sweet Dreams LM” (or “Good Dreams”) allows people in stasis to safely step into fully customized dream worlds to effortlessly live out their fantasies without suffering neural damage.

Naturally, things go wrong. When a hidden crisis leaves the crew’s lives in imminent danger and traps people inside their own shifting dreamscapes, Sweet Dreams administrator Xu Tianbiao (Dylan Wang) must team up with spaceship Captain Li Simeng (Victoria Song) to pull them out. To save the trapped dreamers, the duo has to dive deep into layered, unpredictable realities.

Think Inception meets high-stakes interstellar exploration, packed to the brim with state-of-the-art visual effects and thrilling anti-AI undertones. The supporting cast is rounded out by Zu Feng as chief engineer Lao Bai, alongside Luo Haiqiong and Wang Duo.

If you haven’t heard of the movie yet, Per Aspera Ad Astra was a major theatrical event in its home country. The highly anticipated movie made its theatrical launch in mainland China right in the middle of the fiercely competitive Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) holiday window earlier this year, following its initial delay from its original July 2025 release date.

Now, just a few months after its theatrical run, Netflix has secured the exclusive streaming debut rights for a massive international drop.

When is Per Aspera Ad Astra coming to Netflix?

The film is officially confirmed to arrive on Netflix globally in most major territories, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and various European regions on June 18th.

It joins a rapidly growing list of high-profile Asian cinema acquisitions for the streamer this year. For those who prefer to watch films in their native languages, it will be available with its original Mandarin audio alongside multiple subtitle options.
