Production is currently in full swing for Netflix’s star-studded ensemble comedy The Fifth Wheel, and What’s on Netflix has obtained exclusive photos from the Los Angeles set that reveal a major secret: Will Ferrell is stepping in front of the camera.
While Ferrell was publicly announced as a producer on the project via his Gloria Sanchez Productions banner, until now, Netflix has never officially listed him as part of the cast. These new snaps are the first confirmation that the comedy icon has secretly taken on an on-screen role—and a flamboyant one at that.
First Look: Will Ferrell’s Secret Role Revealed
Filmed on location in Los Angeles (which is doubling for parts of the story), the comedic legend was spotted sporting a look that can only be described as “aging hair-metal star meets romance novel cover model.”
Ferrell is donning a long, flowing blonde wig and a graying beard, rendering him nearly unrecognizable. His costume suggests a character that fits perfectly into the film’s chaotic Las Vegas setting. He is wearing a crushed red and black velvet vest with sheer, puffy poet sleeves, accessorized with chunky rings and black leather pants.
Is he a washed-up magician? A tribute band member? Or perhaps a “hot outsider” of a different variety? Whatever the role, Ferrell appears to be reading lines from a script, confirming his active participation alongside the main cast.

What We Know About The Fifth Wheel
The movie, described as a “relationship comedy” and a “women-centered story,” is expected on Netflix in 2027. Written by Paula Pell (Sisters, A.P. Bio) and Janine Brito, the story follows a group of best friends from high school who attempt to reconnect during a weekend jaunt to Las Vegas. However, when a “hot outsider” crashes the weekend, the group is forced to face their messy lives, bad decisions, and unraveling friendships.

While the focus has largely been on Kim Kardashian, who is producing and starring in the film, the ensemble cast is stacked. The officially announced cast prior to today included:

Behind the Camera
The film is directed by Eva Longoria, who is also producing. The producing team is a powerhouse of comedy veterans, including Jessica Elbaum and Ferrell for Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside Cris Abrego and Alex Brown.
Production Status
Filming began on January 21, 2026, and is scheduled to wrap on March 11, 2026. The production is taking place entirely in California in sunny Los Angeles. The production secured a $14.8 million tax credit allocation from the state.
With Paula Pell’s writing and this cast, we are expecting a high level of improv. Ferrell’s surprise inclusion—and his absurd costume—suggest The Fifth Wheel is leaning heavily into the chaos of a Vegas trip gone wrong.
