While the show wraps up fairly conclusively, there’s definitely room for more but Netflix has yet to officially renew.

As the season finale of Young Millionaires signifies closure for our five main characters, its twists and turns may be a little hard to keep track of. What exactly happened in the final episode? Will Netflix renew? And what’s been said about the future so far?

Warning: the following section contains major spoilers for the finale.

Young Millionaires ending explained

As the finale opens, David is preparing his lavish bar mitzvah in a luxurious location with the help of druglord Samir and his girlfriend. The group, however, has unmasked the identity of the blackmailer who has played with all of them through a “challenge” app over the past few episodes and threatened Léo and Samia with jail : Paul, Samia’s on-again, off-again boyfriend. As they discover evidence, they lie and quickly extract Samia from Paul’s apartment; Paul also cancels wiring the full €17 million to Victoire’s account. As the episode begins, we see the group brainstorming over a plan to confound Paul.

Shortly after, Victoire shows up at his apartment and reveals that she has been betrayed by David and his friends and that she knows he has been the one blackmailing them all along. She proposes a plan in order to team up, divest them of their money once and for all, and get revenge in the process. Victoire also adds Samia has been seeing Léo in secret and playing him, and that she is coming back to gather all evidence on his computer; Paul promptly offers to erase everything off of his computer and store all incriminating files into a hard drive. Then they proceed to split the lottery earnings 50/50 through an offshore account with the help of Victoire’s lawyer; as he explains the financial montage, Paul signs the paperwork.

Paul shows up at David’s bar mitzvah and fully intends to play the footage on a big screen in front of everyone in order to complete his payback. He also tries to woo Samia back, but then sees her and Léo making out on a dancefloor a few minutes later. Paul, enraged, proceeds to cut the music off and plug the hard drive into the computer, but then a video with “Game Over” plays while the characters stare at him with satisfaction. It appears that Victoire’s double cross of the gang was actually a triple cross designed to make Paul turn over the evidence to them. A few flashback scenes then fill us in on the actual plan: the characters actually played comedy in Léo’s apartment, while Paul could actually hear them through a hidden cam. They also came clean to Victoire about the original plan to make Mr. Pivot get the gains for them, and that they feel guilty for failing to be honest with her. The group also watched Paul hide the hard drive with evidence, and got it back. Finally, it is revealed that Paul only signed for 50 shares of the offshore company owned by Victoire, and not half the shares, which entitles him to next to nothing.

In the final scenes, it is revealed that Mr. Pivot woke up from his coma, but now wants €2 million of their money “as interests”, which the group reluctantly agrees to. The group also gifts David a puppy for his birthday in the early morning, as fireworks erupt courtesy of Samir’s girlfriend. As the group walks on the beach, they ponder over a business plan to invest their money, and David says he already has an idea, but won’t tell them more about it.

Will there be a season 2 of Young Millionaires?

Local media La Provence, which reported on the shooting in the Marseille area throughout the production, frequently referred to the show as a miniseries. However, upon release, Netflix’s label for the series is Season 1, suggesting more could be on the way. That’s backed up by Télé-Loisirs, a French outlet that spoke to Igor Gotesman, who suggested that he’s already begun “thinking” about writing a possible sequel (or second season).

How well is the show performing on Netflix so far? Not great or terrible is probably the fairest assessment. In its first week, it picked up 15.4M hours watched on Netflix globally, equating to 3.5M views. Stacked against other shows, that’s a very average debut, which could spell trouble if the show drops off quickly in the weeks to come.

It would seem that the finale ties things up pretty nicely. A renewal would eventually see the group invest their money into a business plan they have come up with, and update us on the romance between the characters of Samia and Léo. But there is no cliffhanger or major unresolved thread to frustrate the audience.
