Wake up! It’s the first of the month! That means, as always, Netflix refreshes its library of licensed titles and even adds a few Originals for good measure. While 73 titles were removed today, an equal number were added in their place, meaning the Netflix library remains at 7,467 titles. What were the 70 new arrivals for today? Let’s take a look.

Of course, now that we’re in a new month, there’s plenty to look forward to. We’ve got an updated list of everything we know coming up in October in the US here, plus keep an eye out for more roundups in the days to come.

What to Watch on Netflix from New Arrivals for October 1st

Halo (Seasons 1-2)

Number of episodes: 17
Rating: TV-14
Language: English
Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Cast: Pablo Schreiber, Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac

A Paramount+ Original series has just arrived on Netflix in the US, in the form of both seasons of the video game adaptation series Halo, which brings Master Chief to life in live-action, with Pablo Schreiber playing the iconic character.

Netflix US follows in the footsteps of other regions in picking up the Paramount+ series from earlier this year. This will no doubt, once again, renew calls for the series to get a third season, with Netflix picking it up. While the chances of that happening remain very slim, by my estimation, it’s never quite zero.

The Way Home (Seasons 1-2)

Number of episodes: 20
Rating: TV-PG
Language: English
Genre: Drama
Director: Elizabeth Avellan
Cast: Chyler Leigh, Evan Williams, Sadie Laflamme-Snow
Writer: Alexandra Clarke, Heather Conkie, Marly Reed

As part of a new deal with Hallmark Channel, the first major TV pickup is The Way Home, which centers on three generations of Landry women: Kat, her teenage daughter Alice, and Kat’s estranged mother, Del. The family is struggling with old wounds, particularly the disappearance of Kat’s brother, Jacob, years ago. The story takes an unexpected turn into time travel when Alice discovers a magical pond on the family’s property that sends her back to the past, where she can interact with her mother and other family members as teenagers. This allows the family to confront their painful history and attempt to heal their fractured relationships.

From everyone I’ve spoken to, this is a perfect series for those who love their feel-good favorites, such as Sullivan’s Crossing and Netflix’s own Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias

New Halloween Picks

If you’re looking to kick off spooky season with a bang, Netflix kicked off the month with around 20 new releases that are perfect for the festive season.

For old-school chills, the 1979 Dracula soars onto the platform, bringing gothic atmosphere and classic vampire terror, while 1977’s The Sentinel delivers a haunting slice of religious horror that paved the way for later demonic classics. If masked killers are more your thing, both The Strangers (2008) and When a Stranger Calls (2006) will certainly fill a hole.

Fans of cursed houses can revisit Sinister 2, where evil spirits prey upon unsuspecting families, or Slender Man, the Internet-born meme that turned into a pretty crappy film. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer also returns to Netflix for those fans of slashers. Other returning films include psychological thrillers such as Identity and Red Dragon. The Call starring Halle Berry fits into this category too turning a routine 911 shift into a race against time, and Premonition bends time itself for a supernatural mystery. Rounding out the lineup are a few family-friendly picks: Casper offers gentle ghostly fun.

Our pick of the bunch, though, and the one pictured at the top of the article, is The Wrath of Becky, a revenge thriller released a couple of years ago in theaters with Lulu Wilson, Seann William, and Denise Burse starring. Two years after surviving a brutal assault on her family, Becky is trying to start fresh under the care of Elena, an older woman who shares her fierce spirit. But when a violent extremist group known as the Noble Men invades their home and kidnaps her loyal dog, Diego, Becky is forced to unleash her darker instincts once again to fight back and protect what’s hers.
