Following weeks of intense online backlash, viral memes, and even intervention from official manga translators, Netflix has finally broken its silence regarding the release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run 2nd Stage. In a massive win for anime fans, the series will officially return in Fall 2026—and yes, it will be released weekly!
It’s been a chaotic few weeks for the JoJo fandom. Last month, the highly anticipated first episode (or “1st Stage”) of Hirohiko Araki’s magnum opus landed on Netflix. While fans and critics unanimously praised David Production’s gorgeous adaptation, the excitement quickly soured when viewers realized there was no second episode queued up for the following week.
With Netflix initially quiet on when we would see Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli again, panic set in. Fans still burned by the controversial “batch release” schedule of Stone Ocean assumed the worst, plunging the anime community into what felt like a permanent return to “Netflix Jail”.
As we covered previously in our breakdown of the controversy, the disappointment sparked a wildly aggressive—and bizarre—online campaign. Fans review-bombed the platform and flooded Netflix’s social media replies with a terrifying, red-eyed “anti-piracy” edit of Johnny Joestar. The movement grew so large that Axe Body Spray even got involved, posting a faux “hostage video” on Instagram demanding the release of episode two. That’s not to mention that KFC got in on the action, too. Even Anthony Prezman, the official French translator for the Steel Ball Run manga, took to X to publicly urge Netflix to reconsider their strategy and adopt a traditional weekly format so the story wouldn’t lose its momentum.
While Netflix has taken the brunt of the backlash online, some have pointed out that some of the blame lands at the door of Warner Bros. Japan, which distributes the title.
But this morning, the tides finally turned.
Netflix Confirms Fall 2026 Release and a Weekly Schedule
Early this morning, the official @NetflixAnime X account posted a major update addressing the Steel Ball Run release schedule directly.
Putting the rumors to rest, Netflix confirmed that the anime is being handled as a split-cour release, and that the “2nd Stage” will arrive in Fall 2026. Best of all, they confirmed the one thing fans have been begging for: weekly episodes.
Here is the statement from Netflix:
“Thank you for all the incredible support for STEEL BALL RUN JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The series is currently in production and will be available for everyone to enjoy. We are planning a split‑cour release across the entire run of episodes. The next cour (2nd STAGE) will begin streaming in fall 2026 on Netflix, with one new episode released each week. This release schedule is part of our original plan and reflects the wishes of the production committee.
Your passion and enthusiasm mean a great deal to everyone involved in the preparation. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we work to bring you the 2nd STAGE.”
A Victory for JoJo Fans?
Whether a weekly release was genuinely the plan from day one, or the production committee rushed to clear the air after seeing the “King Von Anti-Piracy” Johnny memes dominate the internet, the result is exactly what fans wanted.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on exactly which date in the Fall 2026 window the 2nd Stage will drop, so keep it locked right here on What’s on Netflix for more updates.
