Cameron Diaz has been cast in her second Netflix project as a mother whose day goes from bad to worse in the comedy Bad Day. Details are limited, but Diaz is the only confirmed cast member so far, and filming is scheduled to get started at the end of September 2025.
Bad Day is an upcoming Netflix comedy produced by Beau Bauman of Good One Productions, who is responsible for producing several Netflix projects, including Back in Action, Unfrosted, The Umbrella Academy, and Let It Snow.
Laura Solon is penning the script and previously worked on Netflix’s Let It Snow and The School for Good and Evil. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jake Szymanski is set to direct the film, best known for working on Prime Video’s Jury Duty series and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.
What is the plot of Bad Day?
The movie is described as a comedic iteration of Falling Down, the classic 1993 movie starring Michael Douglas and Barbara Hershey, with a mom whose day goes horribly wrong. Per THR, the movie “centers on a single mom fighting to keep one little promise to her daughter on the absolute worst day of her life.”
Who are the cast members of Bad Day?
Cameron Diaz is set to lead the cast of the film, according to THR, marking her second major project following Back in Action, which, at the time of publication, remains Netflix’s biggest movie debut of 2025 so far. It spent six weeks in the top 10 straight following its debut in January 2025 and now sits as the sixth most-watched Netflix Original movie of all time, with 279.80 million hours watched in its first 91 days of release, equating to 147.20 million views.
Sandra Bullock, the actress who’s previously starred in Netflix films including The Unforgivable and the viral sensation Bird Box, was previously rumored to be involved in the project.
Also confirmed to have joined the cast of Bad Day are:
- Ed O’Neill (Modern Family).
- Danielle Brooks (Peacemaker).
- John Higgins (SNL).
- Rhenzy Feliz (The Penguin).
- Jessica Belkin (The Hunting Wives).
- Emma Pearson (FBI: Most Wanted).

What is the production status of Bad Day?
Bad Day is expected to start filming from September 29, 2025, and is expected to conclude by December 19, 2025. Filming is set to take place in New Jersey, with a significant portion of the shoot also taking place in New York.
We’re many months from Netflix announcing a release date, or even a release window, for Bad Day. Given that filming is expected to conclude in December 2025, the comedy movie will likely be available on Netflix before the end of 2026.
