Netflix’s high-stakes political thriller The Diplomat is continuing production, having begun in late 2025, and cameras are currently rolling in London, United Kingdom. What’s on Netflix has an exclusive first look at Keri Russell returning to her role as the indomitable Kate Wyler.
Production on Season 4 is currently in full swing, and these new behind-the-scenes snaps place us right in the heart of London. In the latest scenes captured, Keri Russell was spotted filming in the iconic St. James’s Park.
Dressed in her signature sharp tailoring, Russell’s character, Kate Wyler, was seen flanked by a security detail of agents while engaging in what looked to be an incredibly tense phone call. Given where we left off in Season 3, it’s no surprise that Kate is still operating under high pressure as the tectonic plates of international diplomacy—and her own marriage—continue to shift.
What we know about The Diplomat Season 4 so far
The Diplomat remains one of Netflix’s most consistent performers, and the streamer showed immense confidence in the series by renewing it for a fourth season back in May 2025, well ahead of the Season 3 launch.
Here is the lowdown on the production according to our latest data:
- Production Timeline: Filming officially kicked off in early November 2025 and is scheduled to run through early June 2026 (we’ve been told June 5th).
- Locations: The production splits its time between New York City and London, and has done so since the early seasons.
Netflix has currently slated Season 4 for a 2026 release, as confirmed earlier this year during Next on Netflix festivities. Although given the wrap date, we’re looking in Q4, so anywhere between September and December is likely.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” showrunner Debora Cahn said about the series upcoming return in a press release, “We get to the end of a season and I always think, ‘Well, there’s no way that we can do this again.’ And then we dig back into it, and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, we have to keep going.’ ”
Expect all the heavy hitters to return for the new season. Alongside Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell (Hal Wyler), the series regular cast includes:
- Allison Janney as Grace Penn
- David Gyasi as Austin Dennison
- Ali Ahn as Eidra Graham
- Ato Essandoh as Stuart Heyford
- Rory Kinnear as Nicol Trowbridge
We’ll also see the return of recurring favorites like Michael McKean as President Rayburn and Celia Imrie as Margaret Roylin. Bradley Whitford and Allison Janney are also returning following their recent debuts.
