Los Angeles is being transformed for the much-discussed (and still yet to be confirmed, if you can believe it) return of Brad Pitt in his role as Cliff Booth in the new Netflix movie being directed by David Fincher. Filming kicked off on the project yesterday, and overnight, we’ve got some first looks at Brad Pitt in his iconic buttoned shirt as the movie shoots at a movie theater.
So far, Pitt is joined in the cast by Carla Gugino, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Corey Fogelmanis, and JB Tadena. Plot details are still under wraps beyond the fact that Cliff Booth in this follow-up will be playing a Hollywood fixer.
At the end of June, Brad Pitt, while on the promotional tour for F1: The Movie, said the upcoming project would be an “episode” as opposed to a direct sequel. “This is something Quentin Tarantino wrote,” Pitt said, “It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from ‘Once Upon A Time’. He didn’t want to direct it at this point, so our friend David Fincher stepped in.”
David Fincher is directing the film with Quentin Tarantino behind the script.
There are a few different codenames for the movie from what we’ve been seeing, including one UFP25 (which we believe stands for Untitled Fincher Project). That same project name was registered on the Copyright Office earlier this month and is being helmed by Upcoming Productions, Inc. That production company aligns with the recently approved California Tax Credit for an Untitled Netflix Project. There, the movie was approved for $105,927,000 in qualified expenditures, with 110 filming days in California, 128 cast hired, 425 crew hired, and 3960 background players in days worked.
Filming continues through to mid-January 2026, and we’ve got more on the new movie in our full preview that we’ll be keeping updated throughout production.
Numerous locations have been converted as filming gets underway (via WorldOfReel), including a shop in Highland Park, which has been renamed to Zenith Parts and Accessories.
We’re going to start seeing the streets of L.A. transform into a different decade once again.

Here are a couple more first look snaps captured overnight in a converted space in Los Angeles, in what appears to be a theater that’s dubbed “Beverly Cinema.”
