Get your reservations ready! Right in time for the spooky season, Netflix’s hit animated comedy Haunted Hotel is officially returning for Season 2 on October 9th, 2026.
Previously known in development as The Undervale, Matt Roller’s adult animated comedy won over fans when it debuted last September. Now, after a strong first season that snagged 1.8 million views in its opening week and hit the daily Top 10 in 56 countries (including the US, Canada, and the UK), the beloved, dysfunctional family is checking back in for more.
To announce the date, Netflix dropped a brand-new, meta teaser trailer featuring everyone’s favorite pint-sized terror, Abaddon. Voiced by Jimmi Simpson (who gave us the iconic line delivery “JAAAAAARBON” in Season 1), the powerful demon literally takes over the Netflix homepage. Swatting away titles like Stranger Things, Wednesday, and Black Mirror to clear the screen, he declares, “Fools! I decide when I return,” before warning that the demon hunters are close behind. It’s a bit She-Hulk and impressively, uses the latest website redesign layout and might be one of my favorite teasers in quite some time.
Fans of the show will be thrilled to see its swift return. Showrunner Matt Roller previously acknowledged the anxiety around adult animation on Netflix, noting that the number one fan comment was often, “This looks great. Can’t wait for Netflix to cancel it.” Fortunately, fans tuned in, and as Roller pointed out, “If people watch, we will get to make more.”
The show’s success likely stems from its surprising emotional depth. While it boasts hilarious dialogue and stellar voice acting—which the cast was able to hone through a mix of Zoom and in-person table reads—Roller has noted that the show is really about “emotional truths.” As he previously explained, “We want to get to the root of why that’s happening, what emotional issue on their part is driving it, and how human relationships could help address it… even in the midst of being attacked by little gremlin monsters.”
What to Expect in Season 2
If you are just checking into the series for the first time, Haunted Hotel follows Katherine, a single mother trying to run the world’s most haunted hotel with her ghost brother, two kids, a demon trapped in a little boy’s body, and an ever-growing collection of supernatural disasters.
Going into the eight-episode second season, there are plenty of loose threads to pull on. We expect to see Katherine (Eliza Coupe) continue her struggle to fill the hotel’s rooms while potentially exploring her love life. Meanwhile, Nathan (Will Forte) will likely have to navigate the heartbreaking Season 1 revelation surrounding his suicide, and wildcard Ben (Skyler Gisondo) might further pursue his cultish interests or his “soul mate” Annabelle. We also can’t wait to see more chaotic, world-destroying adventures from Esther (Natalie Palamides) and see how Abaddon handles life after choosing his found family over his demonic powers.
Behind the scenes, the series boasts an incredibly strong pedigree. Matt Roller (Rick & Morty) returns as creator and showrunner alongside Supervising Director Erica Hayes. They are joined by executive producers Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, and Steve Levy.
Animation is once again handled by the powerhouse studio Titmouse (Big Mouth, Scavengers Reign and most recently, DANG!), which is currently celebrating over 25 years of surviving and thriving in the animation industry. Titmouse founders Chris and Shannon Prynoski serve as EPs alongside Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina.
Alongside the main family, fans can likely expect the return of fan-favorite supporting cast members like Drew Tarver as Lonny and Duncan Trussell as Stabby Paul.
