‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ Netflix K-Drama: Everything We Know So Far

More TVN K-dramas are coming to Netflix in 2025, and one for foodies will be The Tyrant’s Chef. It stars Im Yoon Ah as a chef sent back in time to the Joseon Dynasty, who must now serve a tyrant king played by Lee Chae Min.

The Tyrant’s Chef is an upcoming licensed South Korean Netflix Original historical fantasy and romantic comedy series directed by Jang Tae Yoo and adapted from the web novel Surviving as Yeonsan-gun’s Chef by author Park Kook Jae. 


When is The Tyrant’s Chef coming to Netflix?

According to the X user, ggonigon, who has been an extremely reliable source of information for K-dramas, First, for Love will be broadcast on TVN sometime in 2025, and will aired simultaneously on Netflix.

 

We don’t have official confirmation from Netflix that the K-drama is coming to the streaming service. What also remains unclear is whether or not The Tyrant’s Chef will be distributed internationally or if it will be limited to territories such as Asia. 

We expect to learn more closer to the release of The Tyrant’s Chef.

The series will have a total of 12 episodes. Each episode will have a runtime of 70 minutes.


What is the plot of The Tyrant’s Chef?

Yeong Ji Yeong, a talented chef, wins a prestigious competition, declaring herself the best chef in France, and is offered the job of head chef at a Michelin 3-star bistro in Paris; however, on the day she wins the award, she is mysteriously transported to the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. Forced to trade in her bistro for the royal kitchens, Yeong Ji Yeong must now make delicious food for the tyrant King Lee Hoon.


Who are the cast members of The Tyrant’s Chef?

Four confirmed leads for The Tyrant’s Chef are Im Yoon Ah, Lee Chae Min, Kang Han Na, and Choi Gwi Hwa.

Im Yoon Ah plays Yeon Ji Yeong. The actress has starred in only one Netflix K-drama series, King the Land, but she has held leading roles in popular K-dramas such as Big Mouth, Hush, The King in Love, and The K2.

Lee Chae Min plays King Lee Heon. The actor has starred in several Netflix K-dramas, including Hierarchy, See You in My 19th Life, Crash Course in Romance, and Alchemy of Souls. He will also star in the highly anticipated Netflix K-drama, Cashero.

He has also held lead roles in K-dramas such as Suits and The Running Mates: Human Rights. He’s also starred in many film roles, but eagle-eyed fans out there will recognise the actor as the homeless man in the beloved zombie horror Train to Busan.
