The floodgates between AMC and Netflix continue to open, and this December, among the multiple shows from the network heading to Netflix is a supernatural series, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale. The modern-day fantasy thriller that originally aired on AMC+ and Sundance Now is set to drop on Netflix in multiple regions this holiday season, ahead of season 2 launching.

In case you’ve missed it, beginning in mid-2024 and significantly expanded in mid-2025, we’ve been seeing a massive influx of AMC content hitting Netflix over the last 18 months in the US and now globally, with hits like Dark Winds, Interview with the Vampire, and Mayfair Witches finding new audiences on the streamer.

While most of the fantasy titles that have hit Netflix have been from the Anne Rice universe (aka the Immortal Universe), now, it’s Sanctuary’s turn to drop, and it’ll be doing so from December 26th. We’ve verified that most Netflix regions will be picking up the show on this date, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

The series, which was released on Sundance Now and AMC+ weekly beginning in January 2024, is set in the idyllic English town of Sanctuary, where witchcraft is real, acknowledged, and integrated into society. For centuries, witches have lived peacefully as valued members of the community. But when a local teen rugby star dies in an apparent accident at a party, the town’s harmony is shattered.

The death exposes a terrifying undercurrent of suspicion towards the town’s resident witch, Sarah Fenn, and her daughter, Harper. The boy’s mother, once Sarah’s closest friend, launches a modern-day witch hunt to get “justice,” threatening to destroy everything Sarah has built.

The series features a stellar cast, led by Elaine Cassidy (The Wonder, A Discovery of Witches) as Sarah Fenn. She is joined by: Hazel Doupe (Smother) as Harper Fenn, Amy De Bhrún (Line of Duty) as Abigail Whithall, Stephanie Levi-John (The Spanish Princess) as DCI Maggie Knight, and Valerie O’Connor (Red Rock) as Bridget Paterson.

The jump to Netflix comes ahead of the second season of the show, set to release on AMC+ on Christmas Day in the United States, with episodes releasing weekly. The hope will be that enough people watch on Netflix over the festive period and jump over to AMC+ to watch season 2.

The second season will consist of 6 episodes, with the series picking up a year after the witch hunt of season 1. Per AMC, “Sarah and Harper hide in Scotland as anti-witch laws spark hate crimes. When Sarah returns to Sanctuary, a new murder and rising tensions pull her into a dangerous fight to protect her daughter and her magic.”

This is one of at least five AMC shows we’ve confirmed hitting Netflix in the United States, with others including Moonhaven (also releasing on Netflix internationally), Brockmire, Dispatches from Elsewhere, and 61st Street. Some titles that have already arrived on Netflix in the US, such as Parish and Soulmates, are also bound for Netflix internationally throughout December, as well as TURN: Washington Spies and The Red Road.
