It feels like just yesterday we were reporting on Stranger Things Season 5’s monster week 1 debut, where it racked up 59.6 million views right out of the gate. Now, the final numbers are in, and the series is now the fourth most-watched debut in Netflix history.
While Season 5 was undeniably a massive hit—putting up numbers that 99% of Netflix shows could only dream of—the final data reveals a surprising twist: it couldn’t quite catch Season 4. Because Netflix bases its all-time most-watched charts on a strict 91-day metric, waiting for the dust to settle from the New Year’s finale has been agonizing. But the wait is over as of April 2nd, 2026.
As a reminder, all the viewing hours for parts 1, 2, and 3 were combined for this final number. Part 1 set viewing hours between its debut in late November and 91 days later; part 2, following its Christmas debut; and part 3, following its New Year’s debut.

Stranger Things 5 officially settles at #4 all-time with 133.8 million views.
Falling just short of Stranger Things 4 (140.7M) is the big talking point here. As we tracked over the last few months in our Top 10 Reports, it became increasingly clear that the massive gap between seasons may have led to a slight amount of audience decay.
Let’s dig into the exact differences. Because of the vast runtime discrepancy between Season 4 and Season 5, the comparison gets incredibly interesting:

The performance of Season 5 does, however, set up a fascinating test for the franchise’s future—and we don’t have to wait long to see the results. The first official spin-off, the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, is set to land on Netflix on April 23rd.

However, the true test will be its staying power. Because Tales from ’85 is a prequel set between seasons 2 and 3, it will need to convince viewers—some of whom may be feeling burnt out after the finale—that there are still vital stories to tell in Hawkins’ past.
