While there’s a lot to look forward to from Netflix’s upcoming slate of Japanese titles, they’re also continuing to pick up the international rights to many other Japanese broadcast dramas. If you’ve been itching for a gritty, deeply personal crime thriller, you are going to want to mark your calendars. Tagusari Bros. is heading to Netflix in the United States and most international territories starting Sunday, April 19th, 2026.

Originally airing as a prime-time “Friday Drama” on Japan’s TBS network, this 10-episode series promises a tense, slow-burn mystery with some serious star power. Thanks to the official TBS website, we finally have the full details on the cast and storyline.

Here is everything you need to know about Tagusari Bros. on Netflix.

Who is starring in Tagusari Bros.?

Let’s start with the best news: the cast is absolutely stacked. Leading the series are two heavyweights of Japanese television and cinema.

Masaki Okada (Drive My Car, Gintama) stars as the older brother, Makoto Tagusari, a relentless detective working on the front lines. Playing opposite him as the younger brother—a brilliant forensic medical examiner named Minoru—is Shota Sometani (Alice in Borderland, Parasyte).

They are joined by a massive ensemble supporting cast that includes Haruka Igawa, Ayami Nakajo, Goro Kishitani, Kaito Miyachika, and Hitomi Kuroki. The series will also feature a brand-new, original theme song titled “Ai Ai” (愛々) by singer-songwriter Naotaro Moriyama.

What is the plot of the series?

Years ago, the Tagusari brothers’ parents were brutally murdered. Fast forward to April 27, 2010—the day Japan officially abolished the statute of limitations for murder. It should have been a day of hope for Makoto and Minoru. But in a cruel, heartbreaking twist of fate, the statute of limitations on their parents’ case had expired just two days prior.

Because the killer is technically no longer a fugitive in the eyes of the law, the brothers decide to take matters into their own hands. They both join the police force to work from the inside. Together, Makoto and Minoru have to navigate the daily grind of solving brutal, fast-paced crimes in the present, all while secretly hunting the elusive mastermind who destroyed their family decades ago.

It’s a completely original script written by Kei Watanabe and directed by Takeyoshi Yamamoto.

When do new episodes drop on Netflix?

Unlike the standard all-at-once Netflix binge, Tagusari Bros. is getting a weekly rollout.

The show debuts locally in Japan on TBS on Friday, April 17th, 2026, at 10:00 PM. Fortunately, international fans won’t have to wait long to catch up. New episodes will hit Netflix in the US and abroad just two days later, starting Sunday, April 19th, 2026.

Fresh episodes will arrive every Sunday for the duration of its 10-episode run.
