If you kept up with the massive Next on Netflix Spain 2026 showcase recently, one of the biggest titles amongst the lineup was The Marked Woman. Known locally as La Desconocida, Netflix has now officially unveiled new first looks at the movie and confirmed it will drop globally on June 5, 2026.

Adapted from the gripping crime novel co-authored by Rosa Montero and French writer Olivier Truc, the film promises a tense, ticking-clock mystery.

The story kicks off at the bustling port of Barcelona, where an unconscious young woman is discovered locked inside a shipping container—bound, gagged, and completely devoid of her memories. The stakes are immediately raised when a sudden attempt is made on her life while she recovers at the hospital. Enter Detective Anna Ripoll and Officer Quique Zárate, who must embark on a desperate race against time to unravel the mystery of the unknown woman’s identity and the dark secrets buried deep within her fractured mind.

The Marked Woman boasts a stellar Spanish cast assembled by casting directors Eva Leira and Yolanda Serrano (Cell 211):

  • Candela Peña (The Asunta Case) leads as Detective Anna Ripoll.
  • Ana Rujas (La mesías) plays the titular targeted woman.
  • Pol López (See You in Another Life) co-stars as Officer Quique Zárate.
  • Esther Noya (The Innocent) as the ER Doctor.
  • Pilar Nogales (Maldita venganza) as Amalia.

Rounding out the ensemble are some very familiar faces for Netflix regulars, including Manolo Solo (Pan’s Labyrinth), Luka Peros (who you’ll undoubtedly recognize as Marseille from Money Heist), and Kira Miró (Alpha Males).

Who is behind the movie and where was it filmed?

The feature is directed by Gabe Ibáñez (Automata) and penned by Lara Sendim (God’s Crooked Lines). Production took place in mid-2025 across multiple locations in Spain, specifically filming in Barcelona, Catalonia, and Algeciras, Cádiz.

If you’re a fan of high-quality Ibero-American cinema, the production company behind this will definitely catch your eye. It’s produced by K&S Films, the powerhouse studio responsible for the massive hit Netflix sci-fi series The Eternaut, as well as critically acclaimed global titles like Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes). Matías Mosteirín, Pola Zito, and Leticia Cristi serve as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes crew is equally impressive, featuring cinematographer Bernat Bosch (God’s Crooked Lines), production designer María Clara Notari (Wild Tales), art director Marc Mateu (Blade Runner 2099), and set decorators Lesley Arias and Borja Gil Santamaría.
