Wednesday Season 2 Viewership

A quieter week in the top 10s, as not for the first time in 2025, Netflix has kept its slate relatively empty for the arrival of one of its juggernaut shows: season 2 of Wednesday. The pressure is on big time, given that the first season rocketed to become the biggest series of all time for Netflix on the English language front.

All the data we use below is sourced from Netflix’s top 10 satelite page that updates every week with the top 40 most watched titles for that week globally, ranked by views. The data used below covers August 4th through August 10th, 2025. We’ll be using the views metric in comparisons below. That metric is calculated by using hours watched and dividing that by the runtime. This metric allows for better comparisons between films and series, but it’s not an audience metric. It is the minimum number of viewings if they were all complete from the first second to the last second of the film or season.

As always, let’s begin with how this week stacks up against weeks prior (stretching back to June 12th, 2023):

  • English TV – 85,200,000 (Rank 3 of 112 weeks)
  • English Film – 98,000,000 (Rank 15 of 112 weeks)
  • Non-English TV – 24,900,000 (Rank 74 of 112 weeks)
  • Non-English Film – 14,200,000 (Rank 111 of 112 weeks)

1. Wednesday S2

Top10 En Global Tv 1 Square (2)

The deck was swept clear last week for the release of Wednesday season 2, which is being split up into two volumes across August and September. Of course, being a split season adds a complexity to its numbers in the coming weeks as volume 1 and volume 2 viewing all get mixed up into one, and the 91-day mark applies to after volume 2, not volume 1.

Season 2 debuts with 201.60 million hours viewed, which equals 50M views. That means season 2 didn’t come out of the gates stronger than season 1, despite the lower runtime. We suspect part of the answer might be because some are waiting for part 2 to drop. Nevertheless, this second season is still Netflix’s second biggest debut ever for an English TV series, with the Jake Paul/Mike Tyson fight at #3 with 46.6M views, Bridgerton S3 behind that with 45.10M views, and Fool Me Once behind that with 37.10M views.

Will season 2 enter Netflix’s all-time most-watched list? It’s way too early to tell, and truthfully, we probably won’t know until much later in the year.

2. An Update on KPop Demon Hunters…

This week, KPop Demon Hunters finally lost some viewership. Yes, in week 8, the movie lost 2% of viewing hours. Its incredible trajectory has seen it breaking down records, and the movie is now Netflix’s second most-watched movie of all time, easily surpassing both Carry-On and Don’t Look Up.

As of publishing, we’re now 53 days into its run, and it now needs to get just 46.3M views to overtake Red Notice by day 91, which looks infinitely achievable in the next few weeks based on the current trends.

Here are the updated charts and tables:

Week in Top 10 Week Period Hours Watched Views / CVE Weekly Rank
1 Jun 15 to Jun 22, 2025 15,400,000 9,200,000 2
2 Jun 22 to Jun 29, 2025 40,300,000 (+162%) 24,200,000 1
3 Jun 29 to Jul 6, 2025 37,800,000 (-6%) 22,700,000 2
4 Jul 6 to Jul 13, 2025 40,400,000 (+7%) 24,200,000 1
5 Jul 13 to Jul 20, 2025 43,000,000 (+6%) 25,800,000 1
6 Jul 20 to Jul 27, 2025 43,900,000 (+2%) 26,300,000 2
7 Jul 27 to Aug 3, 2025 43,800,000 (-0%) 26,300,000 2
8 Aug 3 to Aug 10, 2025 43,100,000 (-2%) 25,900,000 2

3. Leanne Season 1 Renewal Looks Possible

Last week, we noted how Leanne would struggle on the views metric because of the number of episodes and the higher runtime. That’s still proving true in week 2, with it tracking slightly below Tires and Survival of the Thickest but ahead of Bad Thoughts and Unstable. All four of those shows got renewed but given the series is by no means a slam dunk, we’re a bit 50/50 on its future but leaning more towards renewal, especially if it continues to pick up in the weeks to come.

4. Happy Gilmore 2 Could Still Break Into Netflix’s All-Time Top 10…

I’ve been on the fence for quite some time about whether or not Happy Gilmore 2 will be making its way onto Netflix’s all-time top 10 list, and I’d probably currently take the odds on it just narrowly missing it. While it’s already trailing Back in Action, which presently sits at #7, it’s a little bit up on Damsel, which rounds out the top 10 currently. If it does enter the all-time top 10, it’ll be narrowly…

5. My Oxford Year Is Lagging in Week 2

Sofia Carson is engaged in a mighty battle with… herself. After My Oxford Year debuted slightly above The Life List last week, the roles have now reversed, with The Life List having a stronger second week and the Purple Hearts now well ahead after it had a very strong second week thanks to going viral across social media.

6. Perfect Match is growing!

Love is Blind is undoubtedly still the reigning crown of Netflix dating shows, but Perfect Match is giving it a run for its money with season 3 continuing the trend from past seasons in growing audience from 2.5M views to 2.8M views. That puts it ahead of Love is Blind in its third season.

That’s it for this week – we’ll have more analysis on the top 10s next week!
