Netflix has just announced yet another Tyler Perry film, this time a new comedy project that serves as a long-awaited sequel to the 2010 film Why Did I Get Married Too? The new entry, titled Why Did I Get Married Again?, marks the third installment in the series and is currently in production.

The first film, Why Did I Get Married?, was a big-screen adaptation of Perry’s popular stage play. It was released in theaters on October 12, 2007, and focused on four couples who embark on a yearly retreat to a snowy Colorado cabin to work on their marriages. The sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too?, followed on April 2, 2010. In that film, the couples regathered in the Bahamas for their annual getaway, only to have their trip interrupted by an unexpected arrival that forces them to confront old baggage and new problems. The original films were distributed by Lionsgate.

Tyler Perry has been teasing the movie for a long time, posting a script completion announcement earlier this year, although Netflix was not attached at the time.

What will happen in the third entry? Netflix’s official logline gives us some clues about the big reunion:

“The couples reunite in celebration as Marcus and Angela’s daughter prepares to tie the knot. After being apart for quite some time, they learn quickly that as much as things change, they stay the same. Realizing their children have grown up to be so much like them, they must reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question, why did they get married… again?”

Upon the announcement of the movie, Tyler Perry posted, “Really having fun with this group again!! Filming is going great! It’s hilarious, poignant, and powerful. Can’t wait for y’all to see this one! Here we go again!!”

It’s been a busy year for Tyler Perry, who has released several major projects for the streamer in 2025, including Straw, the second Madea film, plus series such as She the People (later renamed Miss Governor) and the returning Beauty of Black for season 2, with more to come in early 2026. Ruth & Boaz was his most recent release, where he served as a producer.

Doing Life remains the only other officially announced project, although today FilmRatings confirmed an R rating for Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip. There are also reports that he’ll soon be directing a new Christmas movie, presumed to be at Netflix, titled The Gospel of Christmas.
