The Original series Maamla Legal Hai debuted on March 1, 2024, and by April 4, it had already been renewed for a second season. Though the series lacked the star power of high-profile Netflix India projects like Heeramandi, it proved a solid hit. It spent its first two weeks of release in the Global Top 10 Non-English Series and performed even better regionally, spending four weeks in the Top 10 in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

A swift renewal allowed creator and showrunner Sameer Saxena (Kaala Paani) to get right to work on a new season. Many of the main players from the first season were available for a second. Season 2 raises the stakes for lead character V. D. Tyagi (Ravi Kishan), who has been elevated from lawyer to judge. The promotion comes with all kinds of headaches, and not just from the chaotic attorneys and their unpredictable clients. Judge Tyagi is responsible for everything in his courtroom, including faulty wiring that keeps electrocuting people!

Maamla Legal Hai is produced by Posham Pa Pictures, the banner responsible for Netflix Originals Kaala Paani and Jaadugar. Saxena shares creator credits with Saurabh Khanna and Kunal Aneja. Season 1 director Rahul Pandey returns to direct the new season from writers Kunal Anjea, Syed Shadan, Mohak Aneja and Tatsat Pandey.

What is the plot of Maamla Legal Hai Season 2?

Here’s how Netflix describes the new season:

Your favourite lawyers from Patparganj are back… except this time the leader of the pack, VD Tyagi is a judge! Newly appointed judge V.D. Tyagi comes face-to-face with the reality of being a judge, while the lovable lawyers of Patparganj Court bring bizarre cases, odd clients, and personal drama messier than the paperwork in this fun courtroom comedy, which is satya durghatnaon par aadharit (based on true incidents)!

Ravi Kishan (Khakee: The Bihar Chapter) returns as newly appointed judge V. D. Tyagi. Kishan says, “With Season 2 of Maamla Legal Hai, the humour is richer and the relationships are deeper. The audiences will find more honesty, warmth and emotion in the chaos and comedy of this world.”

Returning cast members include:

  • Nidhi Bisht (Phone Bhoot) as Advocate Sujata Negi
