Call the Midwife has been a fixture on Netflix (at least in the United States) for the past decade or so and has seen regular updates on the platform. As you may have heard, Call the Midwife has been renewed for season 15 (and beyond!) and should be headed to Netflix. Here’s what we know about the future of the show so far, and when you can expect S15 to stream on Netflix.
On the air since 2012, the BBC series has undergone significant evolution since its inception, spanning multiple decades with a large, rotating cast, while the central plot has remained focused on midwives delivering babies. Now, in the 1970s, season 14 aired in early 2025 and just landed on Netflix alongside its Christmas specials on September 15th, 2025.
We should note at this stage that only Netflix in the United States has access to Call the Midwife, with other regions having seen the series depart in recent years in full.
Call the Midwife Season 15 Expected on Netflix in September 2026
In May 2025, the BBC confirmed that Call the Midwife’s future had been secured for additional seasons, plus two additional projects, including a prequel series and a feature film. They also confirmed that series 15 had begun production (see first look BTS pic below) with a two-part Christmas special set in Hong Kong and Poplar to be preceded by eight additional episodes, with those scheduled to air on BBC One in the United Kingdom from January 2026.
Per the BBC, season 15 will see Senior Nonnatus staff head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, leaving the younger midwives to cope at home. The Christmas special spans a sunny Far East and a snowy East End, where Sister Julienne embraces change and hope for the Order’s future. Series 15 begins in 1971 amid Women’s Lib protests, with the team facing cases from premature births and placenta previa to kidney cancer, tuberculosis, and slavery.
As we’ve covered for several years now, Call the Midwife’s rollout in the United States has been pretty uniform, with almost every season releasing in September. Given the rollout is expected to look the same for season 15, we’re expecting the new season to touch down on Netflix sometime in mid-September 2026. Of course, if you want to watch it sooner, PBS continues to have first-run rights in the United States.
We can also report that Call the Midwife’s streaming license to Netflix is currently running through at least 2029, meaning the series’s back catalog isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Will there be a season 16 of Call the Midwife? What’s the latest with the spin-offs?
It’s a little too early to talk about season 16 of Call the Midwife coming to Netflix (safe to say it’ll be on Netflix in 2027 based on current trends), given that filming has yet to kick off but season 16 is already confirmed, with filming expected to kick off next year and take us deeper into the 1970s.
As mentioned, the BBC and Neal Street are also expanding the Call the Midwife universe with a new prequel series set in Poplar during World War II, which is coming out in 2026. That’s in addition to a feature film that is described as being”set overseas in 1972 and featuring iconic characters from the existing TV show.”
The streaming status of this spin-off prequel and movie is currently unclear, but fingers crossed that it has a similar rollout – as soon as we know, we’ll let you know.
