Three pieces of licensing news from Paramount today, as Netflix US is scheduled to get another batch of episodes of the popular Showtime series Yellowjackets in addition to extending the availability of Dexter and School Spirits, two shows that were expected to be removed in recent weeks.
In case you missed it, Netflix first licensed the hit Showtime series Yellowjackets on October 1st, 2024, following a rollout on Netflix in international regions earlier that year. The license came to Netflix ahead of season 3 premiering on Showtime in early 2025. What was unclear was whether season 2 of the show would ever come to Netflix in the US, but now we’ve got confirmation it will be touching down on July 1st, 2025, as part of the July 2025 roster of new shows and movies.
Season 2 of Yellowjackets is already available on Netflix in almost all other regions currently streaming the show, such as Latin American countries, Argentina, and Brazil, plus select European territories.
Consisting of 9 episodes, season 2 of Yellowjackets initially aired between March 2023 and May. Set two months after Jackie’s death, which featured in the season 1 finale, the survivors face a brutal winter as Lottie emerges as a spiritual leader, Shauna secretly eats part of Jackie’s corpse, and tensions rise within the group. In the present, Shauna and Jeff try to cover up Adam’s murder, Misty investigates Natalie’s disappearance, and Natalie awakens in a mysterious commune led by Lottie.
We can also confirm Netflix will be keeping Yellowjackets for at least two more years, with the license extended for season 1 through October 1st, 2027.
Dexter and School Spirits Will Remain On Netflix A Little Longer…
In addition to the license for Yellowjackets, we’ve also received word that both Dexter and School Spirits will remain on Netflix US for a significantly more extended period. In the case of the former, all eight seasons were scheduled to leave midway through June, and School Spirits was due to leave Netflix at the end of May.
In the case of School Spirits, a removal notice was present on the show page; however, we only managed to get Dexter to display its removal dates under specific circumstances.
As noted in both of our write-ups on the removals, licensing is always subject to change, and it appears that Netflix has managed to strike new deals to keep both shows on Netflix through to at least the end of the year, with the new removal date for both shows set for December 31st, 2025. Once again, new deals could be struck to keep the shows on Netflix beyond this period.
In both cases, it’s a mutually beneficial move for Paramount to continue licensing the show, as it keeps interest up for the new Dexter spin-off, Resurrection, and encourages viewers to try the new seasons of School Spirits.
Of course, we’ll keep you posted on the removals as and when we learn more later this year.
