Welcome to your end-of-week recap of everything new on Netflix US! This week, we crossed the midpoint of July, and we got our usual mid-month batch of big movies plus a few new Netflix Originals to look over. Over the past seven days, a total of 45 new releases (24 movies and 21 series) have touched down on the streaming service.
Whether you are looking to binge through one of the biggest blockbuster sci-fi franchises of the 21st century, dive behind the scenes of the NFL, or check out some fun retro editions of your favorite Netflix Originals, this week’s lineup is absolutely stacked. Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
The Hunger Games Franchise

May the odds be ever in your favor this weekend! Netflix has just licensed the entire Hunger Games cinematic universe. Whether you want to start from the very beginning with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in the 2012 original, or you want to check out the recent 2023 prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes it’s arguably the best time to catch up given that the new entry, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, is heading to theaters a little later this year with Francis Lawrence directing with Joseph Zada headlining the cast alongside upcoming Scooby Doo star, Mckenna Grace.
Snowden (2016)

Directed by Oliver Stone, this gripping biographical thriller stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the infamous NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The film chronicles his journey from a conservative, patriotic military recruit to a disillusioned intelligence contractor who ultimately leaked thousands of classified documents to the press, exposing massive global surveillance programs. Featuring a strong supporting cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, and Nicolas Cage, it’s a tense, thought-provoking deep dive into one of the most polarizing figures in modern American history.
Quarterback (Season 3)
Type: TV Series
Genre: Sports, Documentary
Football season is creeping closer, and Netflix is here to hype us up with the highly anticipated third season of its hit NFL docuseries. Following a new roster of elite signal-callers, this gripping, all-access series takes fans inside the huddle, the locker room, and the personal lives of the men playing the hardest position in sports. With unprecedented mic’d-up audio and behind-the-scenes drama, it’s a must-watch for any football fan. This season follows Jayden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward, and Joe Flacco.
Stranger Things: VHS Special Edition (Season 1)
Type: TV Series
Genre: Sci-Fi, Horror
In case you missed it, Stranger Things season 1 celebrated its remarkable 10-year anniversary this week. While we didn’t get much news which has disappointed some fans, we did get this surprise drop. This fun, experimental re-release of the iconic first season has been visually and audibly remixed to mimic the experience of watching it on a classic, slightly worn VHS tape. It’s a fantastic excuse to revisit the magic of Hawkins, Indiana, from the very beginning.

Now, let’s take a look at what people have actually been watching on Netflix US over the past seven days!
Over on the movies list, we have a brand new champion taking the crown. The Netflix Original thriller Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea sailed straight past the competition to land at #1 with an impressive 80 points. However, kids’ programming remains incredibly resilient in the middle of summer break, with The Boss Baby shooting up to #2 (55 points).
Last week’s highlights are continuing to show fantastic staying power, with the indie western Old Henry maintaining a top five placement at #5 (45 points). We’re also seeing an early impact from this week’s massive franchise drop: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has already managed to crack the top 10 at #8 (26 points). Expect to see Katniss and Coriolanus dominating this chart even more next week!

On the TV Series charts, last week’s top highlight has officially completed its climb to the top of the mountain! The big-budget adaptation of Little House on the Prairie claimed the #1 spot with 75 points, bumping true crime docuseries Worst Neighbor Ever down to #2 (65 points) and the Harlan Coben thriller I Will Find You to #3 (60 points).
We also had several strong debuts from this week’s unscripted and reality additions. The spicy interview show Hot Ones: Extra Heat had an instantly successful premiere at #6 (28 points), the messy relationship drama of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On returned to the charts at #9 (17 points), and our highlight Quarterback scrambled onto the board at #13. We also have to tip our caps to Netflix’s ongoing push into live sports, as the live stream of the MLB Home Run Derby 2026 managed to chart with 10 points.
