Wow – what a busy week on Netflix this is going to be. With hundreds of episodes of new TV series, thanks to some big licensing pick-ups for the new Karate Kid movie that all Cobra Kai fans should have on their watch list, plus some big new Netflix Original movies and series, it’s a stacked week. What to Watch on Netflix This Week
Wayward (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: Thursday
One of two major new TV debuts this week is Wayward from Netflix Canada, with Mae Martin behind the new Twin Peaks/Black Mirror-inspired series. Toni Collette is the major star behind the new limited series. The logline for the series reads, “Nothing is what it seems in Tall Pines. After an escape attempt from an academy for ‘troubled teens’, two students join forces with a newly arrived police officer, unearthing the town’s dark and deeply rooted secrets.”
House of Guinness (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: Thursday
The second of two major series touching down this Thursday is House of Guinness, which is from the same creator of Peaky Blinders. Set in the mid-1800s, you’ll get to see the fallout after the patriarch of the famous Guinness family, yes, the family name that’s on the alcoholic beverage, dies, and his empire is now in the hands of his multiple kids, with power hanging in the balance.
Louis Partridge is perhaps the biggest name on the cast list, but Anthony Boyle, Emily Fairn, James Norton, Niamh McCormack, and Fionn O’Shea are still certainly names that should get you excited.
Our review is coming up later this week, but if you’re a big fan of your Succession-style dramas or even rich British period dramas, it’s safe to say this should instantly be at the top of your watch list.
Doc (Season 1)
Coming to Netflix: Tuesday
As we first reported last week, with Deadline “exclusively” reporting the exact same thing two hours later, Netflix is going to become the streaming home for Doc, the medical drama series from Fox that’s currently airing its second season. Headlined by Molly Parker, known well for her roles on Netflix in House of Cards and Lost in Space, the plot picks up on Dr. Amy Larsen following a brain injury that erases eight years of her memory. She must rely on her estranged teenage daughter and a few close friends while struggling to practice medicine without nearly a decade of experience.
