Blumhouse’s massive horror sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is officially making its way to Netflix US this summer. As part of Universal’s standard Pay-1 window agreement, the animatronic terrors will be available to stream starting August 3rd, 2026.

Hitting theaters late last year on December 5th, 2025, the highly anticipated follow-up to Scott Cawthon’s video game adaptation proved that Freddy Fazbear is still a massive draw.

Directed once again by Emma Tammi, the sequel picks up a year after the supernatural nightmare of the first film. The sinister legends surrounding the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza have somehow been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town to throw its first-ever “Fazfest”. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have been desperately trying to hide the dark truth from Mike’s little sister, Abby (Piper Rubio). But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with her animatronic friends—Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy—she accidentally sets into motion a terrifying chain of events.

The sequel expands the lore significantly, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s and unleashing long-forgotten horrors. Alongside the returning trio, Matthew Lillard is back as the legendary William Afton. The cast also received a massive boost with the addition of several big names, including McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife and soon-to-be Netflix’s Scooby-Doo series), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), and horror icon Skeet Ulrich (Scream).

Box Office Smasher, but What Did Critics Think?

Just like its 2023 predecessor, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 proved to be basically critic-proof. Critics were generally lukewarm on the sequel, with the main gripe being that Tammi’s follow-up was too bogged down in Cawthon’s dense, cryptic video game lore to appeal to casual moviegoers. As mentioned, though, that did not detour devoted fans of the sequel.

Financially, Blumhouse and Universal struck gold again. The film opened to a massive $63 million during its post-Thanksgiving debut weekend, eventually grossing an impressive $239.6 million at the global box office. Considering the film was made on a relatively modest budget (estimated to be between $36 million and $51 million), it was an undisputed commercial smash.

Now, the sequel is getting ready to terrorize a brand-new audience on Netflix.

When exactly is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 coming to Netflix?

If you’ve been following how Universal handles its streaming releases here on What’s on Netflix, you’ll know that their movies follow a very specific “Pay-1” windowing structure. Instead of going straight from theaters to Netflix, Universal titles first head to Peacock for an initial four-month exclusive window. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 did exactly that, with CNET confirming its original SVOD debut on Peacock on April 3rd, 2026.

Exactly four months after that Peacock debut, the movie rotates over to Netflix—which brings us to August 3rd, 2026.

Once it drops on Netflix US, the movie will remain on the service for exactly ten months before rotating back over to Peacock for the final four months of its 18-month Pay-1 window.

Why is it coming to Netflix so quickly?

You might be wondering how FNAF 2 is hitting Netflix less than a year after its theatrical release. As we reported previously, Universal Pictures’ live-action first window deal with Netflix kicked off a year early. This revised agreement means that Universal and Blumhouse’s live-action slate now enjoys the same fast-tracked streaming timeline as Illumination and DreamWorks animated features.

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the steady stream of Universal movies coming to Netflix US in 2026, and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is undoubtedly one of the biggest licensed pickups of the late summer lineup.
