Netflix in the United States will be joining some international territories in not only picking up season 1 of the Paramount+ series Halo but also the second season, coming October 1st, 2025. The addition is not expected to impact the show’s availablility on Paramount+.

The show’s central plot, like the games, revolves around Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 and the human-Covenant war. However, it takes a more character-driven approach, delving into Master Chief’s personal life and identity, which was a cause for rampant discourse and much of the series’ criticisms.

Played by actor Pablo Schreiber, the Master Chief is frequently unmasked, a major departure from the games, which allows the show to explore his humanity, past, and identity as he questions his military programming. The series delves into the controversial origins of the Spartan program, revealing how Dr. Catherine Halsey created the super-soldiers through morally ambiguous means. The show also introduces new characters and subplots, such as the human Makee, who was raised by the alien Covenant.

The show ultimately ran for two seasons across 17 episodes and was given a formal cancellation in June 2024

Fast forward a few months, and Halo first landed on Netflix in international territories in early 2025, with at least 45 territories carrying the show, including the majority of Latin America, Australia, Belgium, Canada, some Asian territories, and the United Kingdom.

The show instantly hit the top 10s in most of the regions it was added and went onto spend an average of 15 days in the top 10s of 45 territories, with some of the highest performing territories including Colombia (33 days), Peru (29 days), Mexico (23 days), and Belgium (22 days).

Furthermore, the series featured in the global top 10s for a single week between March 2nd and March 9th, picking up 4.2M views. We also know from the Netflix Engagement Report that the series picked up 11.7M views (88.9M hours) between January and June 2025, making it the 103rd most popular series for the period on Netflix globally.

That newfound success on Netflix had led some to speculate that the streamer may go and revive the show for a third season, although we’ve been quick to temper any expectations

It’s unclear whether international territories will receive the second season anytime soon, as we’ve been unable to find any further information. That said, our understanding is that Netflix in those international territories is keeping the show for at least another six months through March 2026. Fingers crossed a new deal has been struck to bring season 2 in due course – we’ll keep you posted if we find out more.

As you may have heard, the showrunner of Halo is working with Netflix on a new series set in the world of another popular best-selling video game franchise. We’re referring to Assassin’s Creed, which is due to get into production in early 2026.
