House of Guinness is here! The new period drama from the creator of Peaky Blinders has already made an impression with critics, but will it resonate with audiences and secure a second season? Below, we’ll provide an ongoing look at what we can expect if the series returns and what it’ll need to do to secure a second season.

Although a few outlets have cited House of Guinness as a limited series, that doesn’t seem to be the case. All the official locations on Netflix refer to it just as season 1 or a scripted series, and if you’ve gotten to the end of the show, you’ll know there’s plenty more in store.

In case you missed it, House of Guinness is the epic new Succession-style drama created by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders. The series explores the aftermath of the patriarch of a family business empire’s passing, as power is divided among his heirs.

Reviews have been mostly positive thus far, with our own review awarding it a four-star rating. We conclude that the series is a richly atmospheric, fictionalized family drama that blends scandal, politics, and sibling rivalry in post-Benjamin-Guinness Dublin, delivering strong performances while setting up more to come.

Has House of Guinness been renewed for season 2?

Official Renewal Status: Not Yet Renewed (Last Updated: 09/25/2025)

Now, three weeks later, a second season hasn’t been officially announced by Netflix just yet. While it certainly sets up for more, as we’ll cover in just a second, the series will no doubt be number-dependent on getting a season 2 order. As we’ve covered in the past, shows must have strong engagement in their home country, along with high completion rates and other key factors.

One of the only drawbacks working against the series, as far as we can see, is that it was launched among a crowded TV slate on September 25th, releasing alongside Wayward from Canada and Alice in Borderland season 3 from Japan.

How well is House of Guinness performing so far?

Let’s take a deep dive into the viewership numbers released through week 3. So far, the series has featured in the top 10s for 3 weeks and looks set to struggle to feature for a fourth. So far, the series has amassed 103.9 million viewing hours, equating to 15 million completed views.

Week in Top 10 Week Period Hours Viewed Views / CVE Weekly Rank
1 Sep 21 to Sep 28, 2025 35,700,000 5,200,000 3
2 Sep 28 to Oct 5, 2025 44,400,000 (+24%) 6,400,000 3
3 Oct 5 to Oct 12, 2025 23,800,000 (-46%) 3,400,000 8

How well are those numbers doing? Not great, honestly, as much as that pains us to report. It’s 15M views after week 3, barely putting it above KAOS, which didn’t get a second-season renewal.

If you track the performance over time, you can also see the series is flatlining in the same way that KAOS did late last year:

The only bright side is that the series continues to rank in the daily top 10s in the United Kingdom and Ireland, now three weeks on. Looking at the heatmap of popularity from the daily top 10s, courtesy of FlixPatrol

What to Expect From House of Guinness Season 2 & Season 1 Ending Explained

Warning: The following section contains spoilers. Proceed with caution!

House of Guinness ends on an explosive note, leaving the fate of Arthur Guinness down to interpretation as the screen cuts straight to credits. The tension brews steadily over the final episodes. After previously failing in his attempt to become a Conservative MP for the City of Dublin due to cheating the system, Arthur tries again with the assistance of Baron Hedges. This time, however, Arthur is pursued by Patrick Cochrane, who holds a long-standing grudge against the Guinness family.

While preparing for his electoral rally, Arthur — and his entire family, for that matter — are very much aware that Patrick Cochrane is out to assassinate him. But he goes ahead with it anyway. The hall in which he holds his rally is packed with his followers, as well as high-alert security. Both Rafferty and Ellen keep a sharp eye out for Patrick, but their attempts are fruitless. As Arthur is delivering his speech, Cochrane fires a shot at him. The screen cuts to black before his fate is confirmed.

The ending is certainly down to interpretation. A bullet is fired, and we see the blast from Cochrane’s gun, but that’s not enough to absolutely and undeniably confirm that Arthur is dead. Moreover, if we look at real history, Arthur Edward Guinness was not killed by assassination; in fact, he lived into his 70s, dying in his home. Of course, this drama is very loose regarding real-world history. It doesn’t try to be as accurate as possible, taking numerous creative liberties.

Elsewhere, before the series comes to a close, we learn that the Guinness empire has managed to conquer the United States thanks to the ambition of Edward and Byron Hedges. The family embarks on more philanthropic endeavours, too, thanks mainly to Anne, Adelaide, and Edward. While historically ignorant and despised by a large chunk of the population, they use a healthy chunk of their profits to benefit and unite Ireland. Part of this includes building homes and offering food and essentials to underprivileged communities.

As for relationships, Arthur decides to remain married to Olivia despite knowing that she has grown feelings for his foreman, Rafferty. She was even pregnant with Rafferty’s child. He still allows her to have sex with other men, just not with Rafferty. However, while Olivia obliges, she and Rafferty sneakily remain involved. As for Edward, he ends the series married to Adelaide, but his true feelings remain with Bella’s mother, Esme.

So, to conclude on what we’re looking for going into a second season:

If Arthur survives, the series is primed to dive deeper into his growing paranoia, political ambitions, and the escalating Guinness-Cochrane feud. A living Arthur could transform into an even more ruthless figure, consolidating power in politics and business, while further fracturing his already fragile family life. If he dies, the show pivots toward a succession drama, with Edward, Anne, and Adelaide left to hold the empire together while facing their own romantic entanglements and public scrutiny.

Beyond Arthur, the finale also laid the groundwork for bigger stories abroad. Edward and Byron Hedges expand the Guinness empire into the United States, while Anne and Adelaide push the family into philanthropy, using profits to fund housing and food for Ireland’s poor. But scandal still shadows them: Olivia remains married to Arthur while secretly continuing her affair with Rafferty, and Edward is trapped in a marriage with Adelaide despite lingering feelings for Esme.
