Netflix UK is set to become the exclusive streaming home for one of the most talked-about British dramas of the past year. In mid-February, we learned that Kirk Jones’ critically acclaimed and BAFTA-award-winning biopic I Swear is officially scheduled to make its SVOD debut in March, following a highly successful theatrical run in the UK. We can also now update you that the United States will follow suit in 2026, with a late Summer release now expected.

Let’s begin with the United Kingdom, where the film’s arrival on Netflix UK is part of the streamer’s ongoing “first-window” output deal with StudioCanal, which is in effect there. Under this partnership, major theatrical releases from the distributor land on Netflix approximately six to nine months after their cinema debut.

We can confirm that I Swear will be available to stream on Netflix UK starting Tuesday, March 10th, 2026. It follows its TIFF premiere with its UK theatrical release beginning in October.

For those in the United States and other international territories, the wait will be a bit longer. Sony Pictures Classics, which acquired the film following its standout premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, has set a US theatrical release date for April 24th, 2026.

Under the current Sony-Netflix output deal, I Swear is expected to join the Netflix US library in mid-to-late 2026. We don’t have an exact date, but 120-day windows typically apply, meaning that it’d be on August 22nd, 2026. Don’t be surprised if Netflix tries to nab the movie a little earlier, though.

What is I Swear about?

Directed by Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee), I Swear tells the powerful true story of John Davidson, a Scottish man who became a national figure in the UK after the 1989 documentary John’s Not Mad.

The film follows John’s life as he navigates the severe challenges of Tourette’s syndrome at a time when the condition was widely misunderstood. It is a story of resilience, charting his journey from social ostracization to becoming a leading campaigner and educator. Rather than focusing solely on the condition, the film is a deeply humane portrait of a man finding his voice and his place in a world that wasn’t built for him.

With a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, I Swear has been hailed by critics as one of the best British films of the decade. It managed to earn significant awards buzz at BAFTA, primarily for Robert Aramayo’s transformative performance, which many have called “flawless” and “deeply empathetic.”

Who is in the cast?

The film is anchored by a career-defining performance from its lead, who recently won the British Independent Film Award (BIFA) for the role:

  • Robert Aramayo (The Rings of Power, Behind Her Eyes) as John Davidson, who won the BAFTA for leading actor.

  • Maxine Peake (The Village) as Dottie, the nurse who helps John find his path.
  • Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter) as Heather Davidson.
  • Peter Mullan (Ozark) as Tommy Trotter.

Will you be watching Robert Aramayo’s award-winning performance in I Swear on March 10th? Let us know in the comments!
