Grab your parkas! After making a massive splash globally, the hit Canadian Arctic comedy North of North is officially returning for a second season. From production status to returning cast members, here is everything you need to know about North of North season 2 on Netflix as of Summer 2026.
Created, written, and executive produced by Inuk filmmakers Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, North of North was the breakout CanCon hit of 2025. Co-commissioned by Netflix, CBC, and the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), the series took audiences to the fictional, tight-knit Nunavut community of Ice Cove.
The show quickly earned a rare 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, became the most-watched new series on CBC Gem, and cracked Netflix’s global top 10 in 33 individual countries. Given its runaway success and 9 million global views in its first few months, it was a no-brainer when Netflix officially renewed the Indigenous-led comedy for season 2 on April 29, 2025. Its streaming success was in addition to picking up a slew of wards including best comedy series at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Here’s your complete guide to what’s next for Siaja and the colorful residents of Ice Cove in season 2.
What is the production status of North of North season 2?
We are happy to report that filming for the second season is officially in the can!
Production for season 2 got underway on January 20, 2026. Filming took place on location in Iqaluit, Nunavut, as well as in Toronto, with Red Marrow Media and Northwood Entertainment handling production. Cameras kept rolling throughout the winter and officially wrapped up in April 2026.

Detailing some of the work on shooting a show like this, writer and director Zoe Hopkins wrote on Instagram, “Our cast and crew worked so hard on North of North. We started shooting in studio in Toronto and then came north of north for the hard part. It was so beautiful! And so challenging and pretty darn cold. We had three blizzards that canceled our work. We worked in -20 to -50 or worse with the wind chill. I’m in awe of the Inuit. I’m in love with the Arctic and my heart is full. Thank you everyone who worked on this show. You gave it your all.” More local reporting on the transformation and work that goes into turning Iqaluit into Ice Cove can be found in the link provided.
The main wrap post came on April 12th from the official show account, with most of the cast and crew partying it up:

With the show currently deep in post-production, it’s only a matter of time before we see some first-look images or a teaser trailer.
When is the North of North season 2 release date?
While Netflix hasn’t dropped the exact global premiere date yet, it has been widely confirmed by APTN, CBC, and Netflix that season 2 will launch later in 2026.
Early CBC listings for the Fall 2026 confirm the season is expected to premiere on September 8, 2026. Across its eight confirmed episodes, each running roughly 30 minutes, will air through September 29th, 2026, on the Canadian network. If season 2 follows suit, we could see it hit Netflix as soon as October 2026, but as late as December if we have to wait up to two months, as we did for season 1.
Note: For season 1, the series debuted first in Canada on CBC and APTN in January 2025 before hitting Netflix globally in April 2025. It’s still to be seen if season 2 will follow a similarly staggered release window or if we’ll get a simultaneous drop this time around, but a Fall 2026 return is highly expected.
Who is returning to the cast for Season 2?
Fans will be thrilled to know that all your Ice Cove favorites are heading back to the Arctic. Anna Lambe (True Detective: Night Country, Trickster) will be reprising her lead role as the chaotic, lovable Siaja.

To date, the only new casting that’s officially been confirmed is Sabrina Wan (Memory of a Killer, Doc) in the role of Haishi.
What to expect from North of North Season 2?
If you need a quick refresher, the first season introduced us to Siaja, a young Inuk mother who dreams of reinventing herself after an extremely spontaneous and public exit from her marriage to the town’s “golden boy,” Ting. Through eight half-hour episodes, we watched her navigate single motherhood, dating in a remote town with very limited options, and long-standing family dynamics—all in a place where literally everyone knows your business.
While the exact plot details for season 2 are being kept safely under wraps, the new season will continue to follow Siaja’s journey as she builds her new life in Ice Cove. Expect plenty more culture clashes between Inuk natives and white settlers, hilarious town-wide gossip, and heartwarming community moments as the show continues to tackle real issues faced by Inuit communities through its sharp, comedic lens.
In a recent interview, Anna Lambe teased season 2 is “crazier” and more intense than the first, while also allowing audiences to get to know the characters on a much deeper level. She said the experience took her through a range of emotions, from joy to heartbreak and devastation, and described it as “without question, the hardest thing I’ve ever filmed in my entire life.” Lambe noted that filming took place in brutal conditions, with temperatures reaching minus 50 degrees for four consecutive weeks, but emphasized that “every day is so worth it.” She added that she didn’t know how the creators could make season one even better, “but they did it,” and said she can’t wait for audiences to see the new season.
