Netflix, alongside Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment and indie distributor Neon, is working on a new feature film titled Saturn Return. The project begins filming in Chicago, Illinois in October.
The screenplay comes from Gaelyn Golde and Clint Bentley, with Greg Kwedar (Jockey, Netflix’s upcoming Train Dreams) set to write and direct. Kwedar and Bentley notably worked together on the Oscar-nominated A24 movie Sing Sing.
The film is being produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Emily Wolfe for Plan B Entertainment, the Oscar-winning team behind films such as 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight. Neon is also reportedly attached. Casting directors for Saturn Return include Laura Rosenthal and Kimberly Ostroy.
The logline for the new movie is as follows:
“During their freshman year of college, Eve, Anders, and Nathan were the best of friends. Then Eve and Anders fell in love. Now, ten years later, they’re reuniting at his father’s funeral as virtual strangers. Told on two timelines, Saturn Return explores what was lost in between and what can still be found.”

Charles Melton is leading the cast with well-known credits including Riverdale, Warfare, and The Sun Is Also A Star. For Netflix, he featured in Todd Haynes’ May December, which Netflix distributed globally in December 2023. Melton is also a significant part of the Beef season 2 ensemble.
Rachel Brosnahan’s first big streamer splash came via Netflix’s House of Cards, before going on to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Prime Video.
Will Poulter’s signature Netflix credit is Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the interactive one-off that became a platform milestone and collected multiple awards. He revisited the Black Mirror universe in 2025 as Colin Ritman again. Other notable credits include We’re the Millers, The Maze Runner, and a role alongside Melton in Warfare.
According to a recent report from Screen Magazine, filming is set to take place between October (commencing from October 6th, we’re told) and November in the Chicagoland area, adding that the budget for the film is “believed to be in the $13-14 million range.”
Deadline was first to report on the cast additions. Netflix did not immediately respond for comment when we reached out earlier.
