One of the biggest blockbusters at the box office in 2026 is undoubtedly the Illumination sequel to the massive Nintendo video game adaptation. Having debuted in theaters on April 1st, 2026, here’s when you can expect the movie to land on Peacock and Netflix, and if it’ll hit in other countries.
Coming from the studio behind Despicable Me and following up the massive 2023 hit, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie brings your favorite video game characters from the Nintendo franchise back to the big screen.
Among the voice cast for the follow-up sequel are Chris Pratt returning to voice the titular Mario and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. Rounding out the returning cast are Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Seth Rogen, alongside new additions like Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
In case you haven’t read (spoiler alert), a post-credit scene directly sets up further sequels, and given the incredible box office potential for the movie, it looks like we’re definitely in line for more from the Nintendo cinematic universe, even if reviews for this particular entry were less than stellar from critics.
When will The Super Mario Galaxy Movie be on Peacock and Netflix US?
Let’s begin with the United States, where the movie will stream by the end of 2026.
The movie will come to Netflix as part of a deal with Universal struck back in July 2021, where animated films from the studio would come to the service as part of the pay-1 window. That deal was recently re-upped and extended to the live-action library (and, actually, brought up for those titles) through 2026.
Following its theatrical run, the movie will be available on Peacock for four months, then on Netflix for ten months, and then on Peacock for an additional four. So, when will the movie hit Netflix and Peacock?
The main movie we have for comparison to know exactly when it’s coming to streaming is the original The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
- Theatrical release: April 5th, 2023
- Peacock release: August 3rd, 2023 (120 days later)
- Netflix release: December 3rd, 2023 (4 months later)
So let’s apply this timeline to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Assuming it follows the exact same 120-day theatrical-to-streaming window as its predecessor, that means the movie will be on Peacock in the United States on July 30th, 2026.
Following its four-month window on Peacock, we currently estimate The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will hit Netflix in the United States on November 30th, 2026.
We’ve got this and all of Universal’s other animated movies expected to hit Netflix US in the next few years in our huge Universal slate preview.
Will other Netflix regions get The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?
If the rollout matches the first film, a few select Netflix regions will receive The Super Mario Galaxy Movie roughly six to seven months after its theatrical debut.
For the first film, regions like Australia, Belgium, and South Korea received the movie between October and November of its release year. If the pattern holds, those regions can expect The Super Mario Galaxy Movie around October or November 2026.
Netflix UK tends to receive Illumination movies around two years after their initial theatrical release for a period of 6 months.
If so, it’ll come to Netflix there in early 2028. All other regions are expected to receive the movie in some form between 2027 and 2029
