Top Titles to Watch on Netflix for the 4th of July

Cheryl Greenway What's on Netflix Avatar

Independence Day is upon us, a day to honor hot dogs, apple pie, and everything America. It’s time to enjoy the sun, sparklers, and watermelon. After the coals of the bbq have cooled down, celebrate summer and the red, white, and blue with some of these streaming choices on Netflix.

Nothing says summer like camp. Get your binge on with the Wet Hot American Summer movie and series, streaming now on Netflix.

Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) stars as Jackie Robinson, the first black Major League Baseball player of the modern era. In 1946, Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) defies major league baseball’s notorious color barrier and signs Robinson to the Dodgers, putting them both in the firing line of the public, the press, and other players. Robinson demonstrates true courage and lets his undeniable talent silence the critics for him. Baseball and moxie. If that’s not American I don’t know what is.

National Treasure

Nicolas Cage stars in this thrilling adventure as Benjamin Gates, a historian and code-breaker searching his entire life for a treasure said to be linked to the Founding Fathers of the United States. After finding a clue that links to the Declaration of Independence, he must race against time and the bad guys to save the document and find the fortune. Oh, yeah. The clues all relate to American history!

There’s nothing more summer than water and sharks…and sharks flying through the air. Nature’s deadliest killer takes to the skies as a group of friends try to save the Santa Monica coast from shark-infested tornadoes.

When you think of America you think Abraham Lincoln. Daniel Day-Lewis stars in this Oscar-winning film as the president pushing to end the Civil War and permanently abolish slavery through the 13th Amendment. Lincon works to compel the nation, and those in government who oppose him, to aim toward a greater good for all mankind.

Kurt Russell stars in this true story as coach Herb Brooks, hired to helm the 1980 U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team. He assembles a team of college athletes who must overcome the odds to beat the ultimate foe and take home the gold. Overcoming adversity during the Cold War is pretty darn patriotic.

The West Wing

Take a look inside our government with one of the best shows ever on television. Cutthroat presidential advisers get their personal lives hopelessly tangled up with professional duties as they try to conduct the business of running a country. With a phenomenal cast and Aaron Sorkin behind the script, you can’t go wrong.

An American Tail

A young mouse immigrates to America and must make his way through a strange and perilous new world. With the help of friends he makes along the way, he overcomes and works to find his family. It’s the story of the American dream you can watch with the whole family.
