Welcome back to another weekly preview, where we recap all the new arrivals on Netflix in the US from the past seven days. Thanks to the start of a new month, we had a large rotation of movies on the first of the month, as usual. Below, we’ll recap all 60 new arrivals, pick out three that should be on your radar, and look through the most popular titles on Netflix US this week.
While the first of the month is always the biggest day for new arrivals in terms of quantity of titles, there’s still plenty to look forward to for the rest of June 2025.
What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
Animal Kingdom (Seasons 1-6)
Number of episodes: 75
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Crime, Drama
Cast: Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary
Writer: Jonathan Lisco
Runtime: 60 min / 1h 0m
Arriving on Netflix US on the first of the month, completely out of the blue, and for the first ever time on Netflix US is Animal Kingdom, the TNT show that ran for six seasons between 2016 and 2022 on the now rather neutered network and was arguably the best it ever put out. Featuring a strong ensemble cast headlined by the likes of Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, and Ben Robson, the show is a deep binge and we’re happy to see it resurfacing in the top 10s already.
“When his mother dies,” reads the official synopsis, “Joshua J Cody moves to his estranged grandmother’s seaside house, where he becomes entangled in the family’s life of crime.” It’s based on the 2010 Australian movie, but honestly, this goes far and away beyond that source material, featuring twisty family drama and plenty of action.
Ginny & Georgia (Season 3)
Number of episodes: 10
Rating: TV-14
Language: English
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Cast: Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Felix Mallard
Writer: Sarah Lampert
Ginny & Georgia is one of the rare Netflix series that has managed to genuinely improve with each new season. Season 1 laid the groundwork, but it arguably got its big break thanks to viral attention from Taylor Swift fans. From there, the show found its audience and hasn’t looked back since.
By now, the setup is well known: Georgia and her two kids move to a new town hoping for a fresh start, only to realize their past isn’t so easily left behind. Season 3, now available on Netflix, stands out as the strongest season yet. The characters feel more grounded, the writing sharper, and the performances more nuanced. Perhaps most importantly, the storytelling allows space to understand and empathize with multiple perspectives, a tricky balance the show pulls off well.
The good news? Season 4 is already confirmed, and development is well underway.
Straw (2025)
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Thriller
Director: Tyler Perry
Cast: Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor
Writer: Tyler Perry
Runtime: 105 min / 1h 45m
Normally, hearing a film was shot in just a few days would raise some red flags, but Straw is the exception. In what stands as one of Tyler Perry’s strongest Netflix efforts to date, the story follows a single mother who unexpectedly finds herself at the center of a bank robbery—because she’s the one behind it.
Taraji P. Henson delivers a standout performance that anchors the film, maintaining a tight momentum and high stakes throughout. Despite its lean production schedule, the movie is anything but rushed.
As for the reception? Audiences are split. You’ll either find yourself in the “it’s terrible” camp or the “it’s brilliant” one. Personally, I’m in the latter—and recommend you watch it to decide for yourself.
