Production will soon begin for Netflix’s The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth, and casting is currently underway. We’ve got a hot casting scoop for the film: The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki is in talks for a leading role in the film.

As first scooped by The Playlist back in early April, David Fincher will direct the project under his overall deal with Netflix, with prior projects at the streamer under his belt now including Mank, Mindhunter, The Killer, and Love, Death and Robots. Quentin Tarantino, the writer and director of the original Sony Pictures movie released in 2019, devised the script for this follow-up film. Further details about the film, including a tentative title, were released in the footnotes of a Deadline article.

Brad Pitt is currently the only person actively tied to the project, picking up in the role of Cliff Booth from the movie. According to reports, Leonardo DiCaprio has been in talks for a cameo role.

The new film follows Pitt’s character from the main film, who served as Rick Dalton’s stuntman and driver in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. According to reports, the new film will see his character in a new role within the Hollywood system: a studio fixer. That’s a person whom the studios can rely upon to fix any of their problems.

Elizabeth Debicki is best known for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the final two seasons of Netflix’s flagship period drama biopic series The Crown, for which she earned multiple awards, including a Primetime Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. The actress has also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, the 2018 Steve McQueen movie Widows, and the critically acclaimed BBC series The Night Manager.

According to our sources, Debicki has an offer on the table and has been in active talks for the role of Roberta, the manager of a mud wrestling bar.

Netflix has not officially announced the project across its sites and social accounts portfolio to date. Netflix declined to comment.

Production on the new film is scheduled to get underway tentatively from July 28th, 2025, and run all the way into mid-January 2026 in Los Angeles. The movie will presumably be set for a late 2026 release alongside another heavy hitter for the streamer: Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
