One of the few movie franchises in Netflix’s roster is Extraction, the action series helmed by Chris Hemsworth. Earlier this year, in late February 2025, Netflix confirmed that they’d greenlit a new spin-off TV series headlined by Omar Sy.
As a quick recap, the new series is being showrun by Glen Mazzara (The Rookie, The Walking Dead), with eight episodes being picked up by the streamer, with AGBO producing. Per the official synopsis, “this action thriller follows a mercenary who’s trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers as he navigates a dangerous mission to save hostages in Libya. The series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.”
Our understanding is that Netflix is looking to begin filming on season 1 of the show now in December 2025 and run through to early to mid-2026. We hear that filming for the series is going to take place, at least in part, in Morocco, a country in Northern Africa. The films have previously been filmed in India, Thailand, Australia, and the Czech Republic.
Upon the initial announcement of the show, it was understood that the series would shoot sometime in Q3 of 2025 and last through to Q1 2026. Indeed, The Direct noted in their report in March that September 2025 was the scheduled start date for the shoot. The latest information suggests that it has now been pushed back.
As always, though, filming dates are incredibly flexible, and that’s no different here.
Furthermore, we can report that veteran TV director Louise Hooper has boarded the project. Hooper has a long history with Netflix, having worked on Treason, The Sandman, and The Witcher over the years. Other well-known shows away from Netflix include Rings of Power, Inside Number 9, and Flesh & Blood. Hooper is on board to direct some episodes of the new series.

Don’t forget that Omar Sy is currently filming season 4 of Lupin, which was confirmed a little earlier this year, and is also set to headline the movie French Lover, scheduled for release later in 2025.
