Formula 1 Drive To Survive Renewed For Season 7

While Netflix has yet to reveal another Formula 1: Drive to Survive season is a go – pictures from the past few days reveal that Netflix is back filming for a seventh season of the sports docuseries.

Season 6 of the show was released on Netflix on the day of publishing this article and tracks the 2023 Formula 1 season that ultimately crowned Max Verstappen with the world title after a dominant season.

Moving into season 7, we’ll no doubt get to see some of the drama that’s unfolded in the off-season. That’ll include the huge news that Lewis Hamilton will officially leave Mercedes for the 2025 season, bound for Ferrari. It may also cover the cloud that’s hanged over Red Bull with regards to allegations against Christian Horner.

Other than that, the show will be tracking the events of the 24 races that’ll take place over the next year with no doubt plenty of drama on the way which, barring a few rebrands (Kick Sauber and Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 Team), the rest of the grid in terms of both teams and driver lineups remains stagnant from last year.

The news of season 7 of Drive to Survive was revealed as Formula 1 testing gets underway at the Bahrain International Circuit this past week ahead of the season opener scheduled for next week. Below, via Getty Images, you can see a Netflix camera crew following Christian Horner and Adrian Newey as they arrive at the circuit. Respected journalist and F1 photographer Kym Illman took the picture.

Season 7 of Drive to Survive will almost certainly drop onto Netflix globally in early 2025, with its usual spot set during F1 testing and a week before the new season is underway.

As noted last year, viewership for Formula 1: Drive to Survive remains consistent, with season 5 tracking essentially the same as season 4. We’ll be able to see how season 6 performs in the coming weeks.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive is part of Netflix’s big and growing sports library

The show arguably was the catalyst that spawned Netflix’s colossal expansion into sports-adjacent documentary programming, with many of these titles put together by Box to Box Films. Their upcoming roster of sports documentaries includes a new season of Full Swing due out in March and a new season of Quarterback. We’re currently awaiting renewals on Six Nations: Full Contact, NASCAR: Full Speed, and Break Point. Coming up, Netflix has a Boston Red Sox series, an NBA series, and a series for La Liga 24.

That expansion has moved into live programming, too, with The Netflix Cup airing live late last year and The Netflix Slam scheduled for early March.

Finally, Netflix also has a scripted Senna limited series due out in 2024.
