Netflix’s multi-award-winning series Blue Eye Samurai is deep into production with a 2026 return expected. We’ve now learned that Freddie Fox has joined the upcoming season, lending his voice to the already impressive voice cast.

In case you missed it, Blue Eye Samurai is a fantastic animated series that transports you back to Edo-period Japan. The plot follows a young warrior on a bloody path of vengeance. After spending two weeks in the global top 10, Netflix renewed the show in December 2023. Throughout 2023 and 2024, the series picked up 130.50 million hours watched on the streamer.

Plot details for season 2 of the animated series are mostly kept under wraps, although we know that Fox will be voicing the role of Poet.

Blue Eye Samurai will mark Fox’s latest appearance in a Netflix Original. He first appeared in The Crown in season 4 as Mark Thatcher in two episodes before briefly appearing in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen last year, starring as Max Bassington. Coming up, Freddie Fox will be one of the major new characters introduced in the second and final season of The Sandman, where he’ll play the role of Loki.

Other credits for Fox include House of the Dragon, The Great, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, The Pursuit of Love, and The Murders at White House Farm

Freddie Fox is represented by Chalcot Square Arts & Media Management.

Finally, we can confirm that veteran Emmy-nominated director Alan Taylor is set to return for season 2. He notably directed episode 7, Nothing Broken, for the show’s first season. Elsewhere, the director is best known for working on Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon (Taylor and Fox notably worked together on multiple HoTD episodes), Thor: The Dark World, and Terminator Genisys. Other directors confirmed for season 2 include John Aoshima and Jane Wu.

This is one of two castings we’ve just confirmed for the second season of Blue Eye Samurai. Yesterday, we posted that 3 Body Problem breakout Eve Ridley had joined the cast for the second season in addition to her role in the penultimate season of The Witcher later this year.
