Netflix is expanding its Spanish film slate with a high-profile adaptation of the successful 2022 Danish thriller Loving Adults (Kærlighed for voksne). The project, produced by the relatively new but heavy-hitting production house Fonte Films, features a star-studded cast of Spanish streaming veterans.
Information on the project was officially released by Netflix on December 4, 2025, confirming that production has taken place in various locations around Barcelona. While an official title for the Spanish version has not been finalized (though Spanish trade outlet HobbyConsolas has referred to the working title El amor es peligroso), the film promises to bring a “renewed vision” to the dark, twisty narrative of the original.
Here is everything we know about the project so far.
What is the plot?
Adapting the screenplay by Carlos López (The Body on Fire, City of Shadows), the film moves the story to a local Spanish context, centering on a deadly love triangle where ambition and loyalty collide.
The official synopsis reads:
“Victor is a successful businessman torn between loyalty to his wife Noelia and the passion and ambition he shares with his lover and business partner, Blanca, who tries to maintain her luxurious lifestyle at any cost. Victor’s brother, Javi, will witness this love triangle where loyalty and betrayal intertwine and nothing is as it seems.”
The film is directed by Fernando Izquierdo, with Fátima Dapena (Sky High, Clans) serving as executive producer.
The original Loving Adults, based on the novel by Anna Ekberg, dropped on Netflix globally on August 26, 2022. Directed by Barbara Rothenborg and starring Dar Salim and Sonja Richter, at the time it was the first-ever Danish Netflix original film. It spent six consecutive weeks in the Netflix global top 10s, garnering 40.1M views.
Upon release, the film was a breakout success for the streamer. Despite a modest marketing campaign, it quickly became a global sleeper hit, cracking the Top 10 Films list in 55 countries in its first week and dominating the non-English film charts. Its dark, unpredictable take on a marriage dissolving into violence resonated with audiences, paving the way for this new Spanish iteration.

The adaptation boasts a cast well-known to global Netflix subscribers, leveraging talent from some of Spain’s biggest international hits.

- Gorka Otxoa (Javi): Otxoa recently found huge success on the platform as one of the leads in the hit comedy series Alpha Males (Machos Alfa).
The supporting cast includes Pau Luna (Chopin, Chopin), Elisabet Gelabert (Money Heist), and Íñigo Azpitarte, with a special appearance by Goya winner Karra Elejalde (Spanish Affair).
Production & Release Status
This film marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Fonte Films. The production company launched in the fall of 2022 with significant industry buzz, primarily due to its founder Pablo Isla, the former president of the fashion retail giant Inditex (Zara).
Founded alongside Carla Pérez de Albéniz (While at War) and María Jesús Román, Fonte Films has quickly ramped up its slate, with projects already set up at Movistar Plus+ (Mugaritz, El Centro) and Prime Video (Zeta).
