Get your clone dance ready, Clone Club—but make it a quick one. The critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller Orphan Black and its recent spin-off Orphan Black: Echoes are both gearing up to depart Netflix US over the next few months, beginning with the mothership show next month.
If you’ve been using Netflix to catch up on the twists, turns, and mind-bending science of the Orphan Black universe, your time is officially running out.
As a quick refresher, all five seasons of the original Orphan Black made a surprise debut on Netflix US as part of a massive, unprecedented licensing agreement with AMC. That same deal brought a mountain of other AMC hits to the service, including several high-profile The Walking Dead spin-offs (this deal is expanding significantly in 2027), Dark Winds, and Interview with the Vampire.
Now, the licensing windows for those titles are beginning to close. As we’ve seen with many AMC shows, they’re licensed with different intervals. Some have been 6 months, some have been multiple years (and across the lifetime of the show) or, in the case of these two shows, just a single year.
The original Orphan Black, starring the brilliant, Emmy-winning Tatiana Maslany in over a dozen distinct clone roles, will be the first to depart. The series is currently showing a removal notice for September 1st, 2026. (Remember, this means your absolute last day to binge all five seasons is August 31st).
But the departures don’t stop with the mothership series.
Following closely behind is the spin-off series Orphan Black: Echoes. Starring Krysten Ritter (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and set decades after the original show, the first season of Echoes was added to Netflix US shortly after its AMC broadcast to help drum up viewership. We can now expect that Orphan Black: Echoes will be departing Netflix US on November 13th, 2026 (with your last day to watch being November 12th).
Naturally, these removals only apply to Netflix US, as no other region received these two AMC shows despite receiving many other titles. Long-time international subscribers will remember that Orphan Black was actually billed as a Netflix Original in many global territories for years, before ultimately leaving international libraries back in August 2021. The US was the only region lucky enough to get this recent encore presentation.
Why are the Orphan Black shows leaving Netflix?
It all comes down to standard licensing agreements. When Netflix picks up shows from third-party networks like AMC, they are rented for a fixed amount of time. Netflix and AMC struck a lucrative, non-exclusive licensing deal to help bring new audiences to AMC’s catalog. As those short-term contracts expire, the streaming rights revert back to the original owner.
Once they leave Netflix, you can expect both Orphan Black and Orphan Black: Echoes to remain available on AMC’s proprietary streaming service, AMC+.
If you haven’t checked them out yet, you still have a bit of time to start your binge. The original Orphan Black remains one of the best sci-fi thrillers of the 2010s, anchored by what is widely considered one of the greatest acting performances in modern television history.
