It’s been teased all weekend, and it’s finally here: a new first look teaser trailer for Squid Game’s third and final season. The last major update we had for Squid Game (not including any of the leaks you may have seen throughout the first half of the year) came during Geeked Week, so we’re long overdue for a teaser, and now just two months away (53 days to be precise), the promotional runup has begun!
The new teaser is 1 minute and 11 seconds long and kicks off with Gi-hun (Player 456) being delivered back into the living quarters of the contestants of the infamous game after the high-stakes shootout that took up much of the final episode, but ultimately saw Player 001 betray the rebellion.
More details have been revealed about the first game, for which we got a clip of the gumball machine in action, where players are either given a blue or red gumball. Per Netflix, these colored balls “represent the fates that will determine the next challenge.” We also got a first look at the VIPs, who were notably missing during season 2, and then there’s the big bombshell—the crying baby at the end of the teaser. That baby is of Kim Jun-hee (Player 222), who was revealed during the last batch of episodes to be carrying the baby of Myung-gi.
Of course, we’re getting another significant info drop for season 3 of Squid Game at TUDUM with the K-drama series confirmed to be part of the dozen-plus strong lineup confirmed for the big event where new trailers, reveals, interviews and other goodies will be taking place through a live stream that kicks off on May 31st (June 1st for those in Europe and Asia).
In addition to all of the above, Netflix has provided an updated synopsis for the new season:
“The third and final season of Squid Game follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after losing his best friend in the game and being driven to utter despair by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who was hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game. Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players’ choices will lead to graver consequences with each round. The world eagerly awaits to see the grand finale written and directed by Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who has vowed to bring the epic story to its deserved closure. Can we hope for humanity in the cruelest of realities? Fans all over the world are counting the days until the final answer is revealed.”
Now, let’s look at some of the new first look images that have dropped which are mostly sourced from the new teaser trailer featured above.
