Crash Landing on You’s Son Ye Jin and Squid Game’s Jo Yu Ri will play the lead roles in Netflix’s upcoming K-drama thriller, Variety. Production is officially underway and will conclude in 2026.
Variety is an upcoming South Korean Netflix Original thriller series directed by Kim Yong Hoon and produced by long-time collaborator CJ ENM.

What is the plot of Variety?
Details are limited, but based on the information we have so far, it appears that the series is centered on the idol industry, shedding light on the darker aspects of one of Korea’s most influential industries.
Who are the cast members of Variety?
So far, only two cast members confirmed for Variety are Son Ye Jin and Jo Yu Ri.
Son Ye-jin has starred in a small number of popular Netflix Originals, including Thirty-Nine, Crash Landing on You, and Something in the Rain. She will also star in the highly anticipated K-drama adaptation Scandal. Outside of Netflix, she has led several dramas, including Shark, Spotlight, Alone in Love, and Personal Taste.

Jo Yu Ri recently starred in the second and third seasons of Squid Game as Kim Jun Hui, aka Number 222. She has starred in K-dramas Work Later Drink Now and had the lead role in Mimicus. The actress is best known for her work as a recording artist, having been part of the Pop Idol group IZ*ONE and her own solo endeavors.

What is the production status?
As we previously reported, filming was scheduled to begin in July 2025. Netflix confirmed the news that production started on July 20, 2025. Filming will now last for several months before coming to an end sometime in February 2026.

When is Variety coming to Netflix?
With filming not due to end until February 2026, we aren’t expecting to see the K-drama on Netflix until late 2026 at the earliest. However, due to the way Netflix schedules its K-dramas, a 2027 release is more realistic.
